Offering VNC access to intel osx box for Spring &Springlobby

Post by bhstone1 »

Hey folks. In the interest of getting OS X Spring and Springlobby working I am offering the use of a MacBook running 10.6.6. I will allow ssh and VNC access to a non-admin account on the system. Any tools that require sudo or adminship to install I will do upon request. VNC would be available overnight from 1900 GMT to 1200 GMT.

Is there interest for this? Is it something that will be used?

Woohoo! Engine devs would probably love this. I'm not going to speak on their behalf, though. :X

what we need is full access to a machine, 24/7, ssh and VNC.
having limited time and having to request each little change to the system and possibly wait a day for it to happen, just to see that you need something else as well...
it is just not feasible in practice, and would only waste dev time that could have been spent on something useful. these half-assed solutions wasted way to much time already, please do not fall for it again!

Give the engine devs full admin access and all of a sudden, it's useful. it's not like they're gonna pwn ur boxxen.

This is my main machine. Admin access won't happen.

I think it is a good idea, and meant well. It may not be ideal, but I don't know if it will be used. Either way, thank you for offering it.

Of course. If anyone is interested I would be willing to allow it to happen. If I get another intel osx box I'll make that one much more available.

If anybody wants to buy me an SSD for my macbook then Id be happy to put a fresh copy of OS X hooked up to the net with SSH/VNC xcode etc =D

Else I'd have done this a long time ago if not for the reasons of privacy and security cited.

I am surprised why noone would just install hackintosh onto a VM or some old PC.

I'm actually hoping to do that with a Macbook a friend may want to dispose of.

I think those still have occasional weird compatibility issues. I wish it was easier to virtualize a copy of OSX, even if it was Mac only it'd give a much better option for development.
