octopus ban

Post by KaiserJ »

i'm a bit concerned that somebody can be banned for posting that

im not trying to force moderators to change their decision. i just feel its a bit strange having to walk on eggshells with these ambiguous posts, and i'd really like it if we can at least consider to change our policy

5. No posting of excessively mature content. These forums should be appropriate enough that community members 13 and older are not offended by our content and appropriate enough that they are safe for people viewing in workplace environments. This includes posting of sexually explicit material, excessive or crude usage of foul language, posting gore or shock humor images or websites of any type, or intimate discussions of a sexual or violent nature. Exceptions will be made only for creative writers who PROPERLY PRECEDE their works with appropriate warnings of content.

i certainly don't disagree with this rule, its a good one, but i'd like to argue in a clause...

"classifying a post as one with excessive maturity should be taken at face value rather than looking for deeper meanings."

in short : think about why its offending you, before you ban.

if you feel it looked like something else; perhaps reminded you of a picture you're familiar with, its your own mind giving you that interpretation, and disgust you feel is sparked more by association by memory than any real outrage.

it was NOT a goatse. it was a fake goatse. if anything, it warrants a fake ban, not a real ban.

i got banned for 3 weeks due to a faulty, loose interpretation of a pretty mundane statement so this really hits home for me as well. (also i'd only ever had one warning. but that's a story for another day)

please, in future, if you see something that isn't kosher in your eyes but is of a possible loose interpretation... just delete the post.

i didnt expect to offend anyone with the statement i made that got me banned;

i doubt wombat expected to offend anyone with his octopus (if he intended to hurt or offend, wouldnt he just have posted a proper goatse?)

i apologize for my poor format and legibility, im running a fever. i really would like community members to address this issue however because unless somebody says something this point tangent of moderation will continue.

The picture in question is part of a series of 'fake' shock images. This forum is not /b/. If you want to troll people with such things, go there.

I issued a warning for the offending post, and because the recipient has received 3 warnings in the last 60 days, I enforced the ban that resulted.
