TA is the best game, but new SPRING engine does not work.

Hi,
I somehow rembebered one of the best games ever I played on PC and wanted to play again after 5-6 years after I spent years and years, days and nights enjoying the TA.
I found SPRING engine and downloaded a games, but it is not working on my laptop :(

I remember the last one it worked it was Supreme Commander and TA Kingdoms without problems. Ok, I know this is a different engine, but if there is someone who could help me?

This stack trace indicates a problem with your graphic card driver. Please try upgrading or downgrading it. Specifically recommended is the latest driver, and one that is as old as your graphic card. Make sure to use a driver removal utility, before installing other drivers.

Ok, thanks for info, I am new to this forum. I will do it just now, just in case.

I have tried this procedure:

The output was:
atioglxx.dll is either not designer to run on Windows or it contains an error.....etc.

as the message states, do not only test the latest driver.
it is a problem with your GFX card + driver (the OpenGL part, not DirectX, which is what most windows games use). it is a not a problem with spring. i have the same GFX card on a notebook of mine btw, and i was able to run older versions of spring under windows, but i do not use the notebook for spring anymore, i do not know if it would still work with newer versions, and it never worked acceptable under linux. ATI (and Intel) cards generally have bad OpenGL support, and even worse so under linux. so if you care for spring, maybe get nvidia next time. spring will most likely never support DirectX.

SOLVED

I have uninstantiated all the ATI drivers which are OEM by my Dell laptop.
I had drivers from official DELL website.

After the removal, Windows 7 have updated via Windows Update the generic ATI drivers and so far the SPRING works.

I hope I could play game without new glitches.


To sum up:
1. Remove all OEM drivers from your PC manufacturer
2. Accept windows updated drivers
3. Spring can load and play

Thanks but unfortunately, I can load the game and start, but occasionally when clicking a mouse I get exited from the game to windows.
I suspect that something is wrong with ATI drivers and graphic cards :(

I guess I have to stick to original TA game engine.
But was looking forward to this one.

Or even better. Buying a new PC should solve the problem :)

if you get a new computer, nvidia should be able to play spring without troubles

Thanks for advice...

I do not think I will be buying a new PC just to play TA, I think Dual Core 2.16 and 2 gig RAM should be sufficient for normal PC usage until some extra money comes in.
But I will definitely have in mind newly discovered TA engine including the games and will be buying NVidia based PC.

This is definitely the best game I ever played and deserve that system is build around that fact.

If I had a desktop I would invest in Nvidia upgrade, but with laptop your options are limited.

Interesting link.
Of course I have downloaded it straight away.
But it requires famous .hpi files, which means I need to look for original CDs.
This also means (I guess) that I can only play old missions and units (I have done the old original game at least 3-4times already including kingdoms and Supreme Commander).
In SPRING I could play another games, or maybe SPRING maps and missions are interchangeable in TA3D?

+1 to buy nvidia for your next system if you like spring. we do not get money from them ;-), but they have far superior OpenGL support, and if one day you might want to use linux, you would be double happy even, as the difference there is even bigger.

as for the mouse click issue, if there is a stack-trace at the end of infolog, please attach it again. you might also want to try to play windowed instead of full-screen, or changing the software-/hardware- cursor setting (both in spring-settings). even if you run spring windowed, you can still set it up so it plays like full-screen later.

NVidia is, in general, more supportive of indie development, as far as driver support and business philosophy go.
ATi tends to have better price/performance, but NVidia is well worth the premium.

This is from a long-time (5-6 years, now) ATi card owner.

Spring content is not Compatible with TA3D but I do believe there are a number of TA Mods and Total Conversions which are.
