Dropbox

Post by oksnoop2 »

Ok so I recently got online dropbox. It's this small application that sync's data to a server and lets you pull it down anywhere with a net connection. It's basically svn software for dummies :-). You can track revisions of files, have it auto-sync between locations, share files to anyone in a "public" folder. In short it's really nice and you get two gigs of storage for free.

It could be useful for maintaining spring projects. As it does all the functions of an svn without having to be bound to googlecode's license requirements.

So far it's been pleasant and they have not done anything to make me think of them as a seedy company. Like i was concerned about ad spam or them asking for a credit card number but nope, just an email address. So that was nice.

And with referrals you can get up to 8 gigs of space for free. Which is partly why i bothered to write this post/review. If you are interested in it, PM me for the referral link.
That way i can gain some free space.

Or if you would rather not you can always get it though:
https://www.dropbox.com

Same process either way.

For those of you who have not considered getting dropbox I would strongly recommend it for it's ease of use, versatility, and the fact it's free.

Google code recently relaxed their requirements. Now all thait is required is that the project be open sauce.

Cool, I guess I'll stop worrying about my mishmash of licenses.

Sorry, no referral links on the forums please. I'm not going to issue any official warnings, but it's against the advertising policy of the forums. Although, if you like the service and you want to thank oksnoop for linking us, feel free to PM him to get his referral link.

I understand why a service like this is using that kind of a system since they are offering something unique and niche and it's in their best interest to get as much viral marketing as possible right now, so no hard feelings against drop box, but it's against the rules here to advertise that way. Sorry.

I've used Dropbox for collaborative art asset work. Fills that niche.
