I've had this on two games now; basically I tell a unit to build certain structures and it will go in to place it, get too close (sometimes it looks like it really is too close, sometimes not), go back out and try again, and repeat.
In SA it happens to me using a (arm, haven't tried core) tech 1 construction vehicle and trying to place solars (adv. or not). This one just goes on forever as far as I can tell.
In Spring 1944 it happens trying to get any kind of construction infantry to place vehicle factories, and occasionally (but to a lesser extent) other buildings. I've timed it taking up to five minutes to get a factory placed, which works better with only one guy, then I can send the others in to finish it. Basically I've got to do that, then build a construction vehicle, and have the guys guard it for them to build things.
Which is another point - they can all build these structures if something else places it. And (in placing) it doesn't matter if I make them manually approach from different angles or what. Either they run/drive inside the placement area, or they think they have, and try again.
I haven't added any widgets at all since installing so if it's something like that it must come standard with these games. Haven't found anything yet though and I don't understand why that would affect specific unit types either.
Not even sure where to put this... building issues...

Re: Not even sure where to put this... building issues...
has to do with a change the devs did to the minimum build distance or some shit. This is the second time they have broken things like this with regards to builders. I am not sure of what tag has to be altered as I am too lazy to look into it right now.

Ah, that sucks then... but at least it's not something I broke, that's always good news.

It was a requested and desirable change.smoth wrote:has to do with a change the devs did to the minimum build distance or some shit. @ OP: Which version of S44 were you playing?
Re: Not even sure where to put this... building issues...
I have 1.5, just got it in the last week or two.
Re: Not even sure where to put this... building issues...
You can grab an updated version of 1.5 from #s44 in the lobby which should be fixed up (amongst many other changes)

Re: Not even sure where to put this... building issues...
Okay thanks, I'll update that then (if my router stops dying a few moments.)
ETA: actually, I still seem to have the same issue with the latest version.

can you give us a screenshot of the unit? I suspect it should be reproducable if you tell the unit to build from what would be the corner

In that case it's possible that Nemo increased the values but didn't realise that he hadn't increased them past the minimum. I will take it up with him, thanks for the report and thanks for playing.LameFox wrote:Okay thanks, I'll update that then (if my router stops dying a few moments.)

Well, this unfortunate guy was trying to make a towed gun yard, and kept running too close. He was pretty skilled though, he did place it sooner than five minutes.smoth wrote:can you give us a screenshot of the unit? It doesn't seem to make much difference for me which angle they start from, though. Often in running in and out ad nauseum they actually work their way around it quite far before finally placing it or giving up on the order, and seem to run in the sides too (like this one).
