ive done a little bit of NWN model creation in 3ds max and know how thats structured but Im after the similar sort of info for spring. i did look through the FAQ but not much info on models there

Oh, be nice you two.

Anyway, as for the question. Here are to major mays to make units. the old and the new way.
The old one, with cavedogs unit editor, using 3do etc.
The new way with upspring, using s30 (uv mapping, that might be familiar to you).

http://spring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Units:Create
most of the information you need about spring is located in the wiki.
And for the rest, reading the http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2660 and http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2839 helps.
However, creating units isn't an easy job, but a much appreciated one.
There is lots of information around in the forums. But you'll get a hard time looking there.
