New SupCom Picture

Post by Chrispin »

I was just looking around for an avatar on google images when I just happen to stumble apon this picture of Supreme Commander. Take a look.....

http://tgz3d.com/battle5.jpg

Is this real? Well, I'm pretty sure. It's a new one, or maybe I've just been gone for a long time. I don't know. But it looks like the regular sized maps are gonna be fairly decent, there are going to be craters, and they are finally going to let you actually make WALLS. Rather than just dragons teeth. Oh and the Cybran sign in the bottom right, I think it was remade or something to where it had two curves on each side or maybe thats an earlier Cybran sign.

It says it's a mockup, so not real.

I think it's fake on the same server you have a second picture:

the GUI in that second picture (the fake, or 'more fake') looks horribly uninfomative and inefficient.

and that map would be tiny. No bigger than the medium sized Spring maps.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering about in the first place. All it shows is a minimap and three units that are "supposedly" being commanded.

And actually Spring maps aren't too big. If you look closely at the minimap it looks like twice the size of a NORMAL Spring map. Now if you call the map WideOpenCombat normal sized, then I could see that being smaller.

P.S. How big can Spring maps be made?

The major limit on how bgi a map can be in spring is cpu and memory pwoer. Fine our comptuers could handle playing on much bigger maps, but the map makers computer would collapse under the strain of compiling the map.

Last i heard the map limit was 32x32 then it was doubled to 64x64, but most map makers darent breach the 30x30 barrier without first doing a system overhaul.

Actually, Alantai, mapconv simply won't compile a map with a texture file larger than about 600 meg(28x28). It doesn't run out of memory or any system resource, it just throws up an error and dies. I tried. :P

So if the texture file was JPG, which still may be supported, would that work better? Or is it an overflow somewhere else?

I have seen all the supcomm screens and i have read all the interviews from Crise taylor and in most of the forums around.

So far i know what this game is going to be like and its going to far exeed any other RTS around.

The game is going to have 500 to 1000 units per side!!! the maps are going to be Bigger then ever before and if you think thats it you gots another thing commen because its going to have so many more elements that has never been seen in another game before!!!

according to chris taylor Supcomm will be the next biggest modded game ever
