.:New Map:. Foothill Basin

Post by Forboding Angel »

My newest creation.

It is 12 x 12 in the same spirit of The Foothills.
File size is 7mb

Dunno if any of you will like my writing but here goes.

It was near late morning when the Arm Commander Landed on the planet of endless Foothills (seings how the arm had yet to name the rock). Being transported was most likely his greatest discomfort. THe lack of defense was one thing but the thought that the core could have already infiltrated this part of the planet somewhat unnerved him.

No matter, he thought. His mission was to set up a base of operations on this planet and to make sure that the core did not get a foothold, as this was one of the few locations near a black hole that lead directly back to the Empyrion system.

Tension was tight as he lathed is first metal Extractor. He had to hurry he knew. The core could be scouting for any Arm whereabouts already. He lathed a few wind generators and started on a Vehicle factory. He hoped that his Jeffy pilot could scout and possibly cripple the core's ability to function, if only for a short while. Assuming they were here in the first place.

He finished lathing some Light Laser Towers near a bottleneck to his position. Looking in the distance he could see a slight plateau amongst a small lake.

The factory had finished lathing the first Jeffy. THe commander ordered him to scout for any core presence, especiall on the plateau.

SOme time went by as the commander build Wind Generators and assigned a construction worker to clear a stand of trees and set up a forward defence.

Suddenly, the jeffy scout reported in. "Sir, the core are here! I am badly damaged and attempting to return. It looks as thought the core was caught off guard by my appearance. I would guess that - OH SHIT! *The ground shook from a heavy plasma round striking the ground near the Jeffy pilot* Sir, I can't make it! The core has an army of thuds and Storms headed your way! I... *short burst of static as the connection broke off*

Well well, the commander thought to himself. I shall have a few suprises for them. He gave the order for more workers to help with erecting the last remaining plasma cannons and Heavy laser towers.

THis should set them for failure, he thought. Now to make the suprise complete... At that moment he started a line of dragons teeth diagonally reaching out from the arm base. Repeating the process with another parallel line of dragons teeth about 50 - 60 feet apart, in no time he had created a massive funnel into the most obvious entrance to the arm stronghold.

Let them come, he thought, I will be ready!

:D please don't critique the story. I am not a writer by any means and I don't pretend that I am any good at it. Just trying to set the mood :D

Below is eyecandy. If you liked The Foothills you will love this one as well, named aptly, Foothill Basin.

Your maps all have a fairly similar look... I really don't understand the concentric ring thing you do alot... does real terrain ever do that?

It certainly looks quite alien.

ever seen real water erosion? I looks much like that. And if you wanna get real nitpicky, there is a lake at the bottom, SO you could think that rain runs down the hill into the lake :D

BTW check the contour map and go into fps view, you may be a little siprised by the "Rings"

I know they are well aligned, they were well aligned with the contour map in your other map too. They just look somehow odd, expecially up close. I've never seen real terrain do that before. I'm not saying its bad or wrong, it just looks strange to me.

Ever noticed that if you are playing one of my maps pressing f2 is (normally, assuming you aren't trying to figure out if a kbot can go over the hill or not) normally not necessary.

That's one of the reasons I leave those lines in there. It helps you see (at least, it helps me anyway) the heights of different parts of the map.

There are a lot of maps out that I have trouble telling where slopes are etc (river dale's middle section comes to mind, I always thought that was an uphill slope until I went fps one day).

I'm sorry it looks odd to you, but I'm not sure why it bothers you so much.

Try the map out. I think you'll like it :D

I like the look of the map ....
The layout of the trees and the way you added zones ...
What I mean by zones .. I mean the patches ...

Looking forward to playing others on-line with this
map...

Keep up the good work ...

Well i just played it against the A.I (not the best enemy to jude a map on) and i've come away with this impression.

Its a good looker, with nice metal placement. I never had to many resourses or two little. The map is a little flat, with some nice wrinkles. But overall the terrain (other then its nifty circles look) is rather bland.

But is that bad? No. Not every map can be riddiculus extreams! This is a great, african esque local. I look forawrd to many a ficrce tank battles to be fought over the ole water hole in the center of the map.

it did turn out a little flatter than I intended, but on the other hand, that's not always a bad thing I figured :D

Flat terrain isn't always bad. If you have no flat terrain, units have to terraform to build things, and so you can spot where buildings are from across the map without any radar or LOS coverage.

Also flat terrain lends itself to huge tank battles
