so everyone who is on spring forums but doesnt play or mod spring engine games, are trolls too?

I've been asking many times in this thread why is this game so epicly epic, but all answers are: "stop trolling"
People gave you good replies to that question. If you really cared, you would play the game yourself to find out. You've been called on trolling now so just give up already..

Teutooni wrote: Btw Yan, didn't you complain about Fallout New Vegas being too static with no procedural content? Well here you have procedural content and you are still complaining. Go play Dwarf Fortress or something... Oh, right, you don't like it because it's not 3d rendered.
What is this suppose to mean? That all three are not good enough?yes that's right.
Should i always point out the best things in games like I'm some sort of fanboy?
OK here we go.
Fallout has a pretty complex game story wise and sometimes some cool to very cool side quests.
Minecraft is an original idea but its just sandbox without an actual game.
DF is brilliant concept wise and is extremely deep and complex all it needs is some sort of usable UI and yes 3d would be awesome.

If you expect me to go "drool, omg omg this is so awesome, drool" than know that i only reserve those to truly amazing games that broke the mold or were just great from all aspects.
Not many like that but i didnt even ask it from Minecraft, all i said was that it has very shallow gameplay.
To have deep and intricate and deep gameplay a game is not forced to only scripted stuff, and you gave the perfect example yourself,DF.
So you can try and flame bait all you want and ill jsut keep stating my opinion which i back up woth some rational arguments.

What You could say is yes, Minecraft is a sandbox and has pretty shallow gameplay but i still enjoy it cause of this and that.
Such a statement would be rational and a true impression of the game as oppose to the drooling fanboizm.

smoth this game is quite simple, basically as someone said he wrote the 3d engine in one week, the rest is probably not that super complex either. Java OO-design makes things so much easier to extend, of course people are gonna mod it quite easily. I wouldn't say people are producing ample content compared to what they would have been doing had there been a proper MDK(Minecraft Developer Kit, just came up with that name). What we have right now is a bunch of hacks that barely work. Each new version that comes out breaks compatibility with all the old mods.

I think part of his(notch's) problem, is he doesn't want anyone else to get rich off his work. I could understand that. My own theory is that his personality is a bit like Zuckerberg in the movie. Remember notch is a member of Mensa Sweden, he's probably an aspie with all kinds of peculiar personality traits and quirks that makes him difficult to work with. Not everyone can work in a team, this guy might just well be one of those lonewolf coders that doesn't play well with other programmers. Now that he's had some serious financial success, he's unable to take it to the next level because he lacks the business acumen and social/leadership skills necessary. Right now, he has his buddies working for him. That says a lot about the guy. He's probably really hesitant to let people he doesn't know touch his "baby".. but that is just not the way to do business. His promises of not going that route are just excuses. Mind you now, this is just a theory, I don't have any real evidence to support it except for the current circumstances.

Please paste me those good replies.

On the other thread the best thing in this game was "you can get lost!" and then it changed to "monsters scare the hell out of you!" and then it became "its fun to build castles!" while at the same time people contradict all these 3 reasons saying the game isnt about those...

he's unable to take it to the next level
What would the next level be? Another 10 million dollar? Kind of seems like he is already at the boss level.

maybe there are several reasons why people play minecraft and different playstyles?

Also what is with this "more content==deep gameplay?"
Maybe thats true for repetive grinding games like WoW ("ololol new item, so deep") but ie soccer games have basically no content at all except different teams and still have deep gameplay.

My point is you shouldn't expect every game to be perfect. We're talking about entertainment here, if it is fun it is good enough. Maybe your standards are just higher. To have some fun, I don't need to wait for all the stars to align, when a developer is taken by a fey mood and creates a masterpiece that is decorated with epic and menaces with spikes of awesome.

Btw, buying a game is not being a fanboy. :P

Could be possible cheesecan. However, we have yet to see. So far the new biomes and mp fixes made me pretty happy. Supposedly he/the team had to go back and correct a lot of poor coding to fix the mp. Now we have that corrected. He added support for skins, very cool imo. So where now? which is what he did, he had a meeting with the current team to decide how they are to proceed. They laid out a plan and are acting on it. While that might not be big news you consider an 8 hour day instead of working until you are bored of it(what he was doing before) and people are doing stuff. Supposedly the artist did a bunch of new content that he is aching to get out.

Also notch moved to a 2 week release cycle, we are due one today, odds are it might get bumped back.

So I guess the next step is he is going to continue to grow the team as he is able to recruit talent. He has already mentioned they are starting a secondary project(good sense) so odds are more devs are coming. Consider also, that all the money does not go into minecraft dev pay. We are talking overhead(which can be pretty high), taxes and employee pay. If he grows too large too fast his company will be sunk quick or he will have to turn to one of those conglomerate producers. just imagine, minecraft brought to you by EA games.
