Before the europeans got fast food from the americans most of them had normal weight.
In these youth stories, there was always a fat guy. (like blacks in old movies there had to be one for pc reasons etc)

I've been doing pretty good on the "forget to eat, drink coffee instead" diet, though it has been supplemented by the "my wife is on a diet" diet and the "I just had kids and we're trying to ensure they eat healthy" diet.

and im not talking about "big" people. im talking about the tubs of lard who are clearly in poor health and just making their condition worse. someone can be big, even thick, and still be healthy according to body mass...

@ waldos post... those are some ugly stats. 60% overweight in my country, what an embarrassment! i blame a number of factors... passive entertainment, poor diets and fast food, lack of exercise.

its like my buddys sister telling me "i wish i could be skinny like you" and at the same time she's eating some takeout grease-filth; has a treadmill with a half inch of dust on it in the basement, never exercises and smokes like a chimney.

even scarier than adult obesity is child obesity... clearly a malfunction of the parenting process to have a 3 year old kid so fat that they can't even fit down a slide... i guess it's a matter of responsibility... like that guy who sued mcdonalds for making him fat; if he had any sort of willpower or sense of self preservation, he wouldn't be eating that swill every day

edit: thought i'd add to this, with a personal tale... on the way back from working the other week i was taking the train, and a bunch of people got on... there was an old lady there so i got up and pointed to the seat for her to sit... so she starts to go over to it, and this fatass lady kind of pushes in front of her and sits down... so i go "i only got up so this lady could sit down, have some respect" and the fatty goes "oh but my feet hurt" like its my fucking fault and like i haven't been working all day and like MY feet don't hurt. you're unhealthy, you're disgusting, and since you've brought it on yourself you'll have no sympathy from me.

Thats not only fatties problem, many people make wishes but do nothing about it. "i wish i had million dollars" -> keep old job at cleaning service and do nothing to get million dollars.

Nope, highly processing the food makes it easier for your body to absorb the fats. A lot of modern food is basically designed to make people fat.

I actually agree with that idea. Or possibly tax cuts for healthy food, or a combination. Currently unhealthy food is a lot cheaper than healthy food (in USA at least?), which is terrible because it means eating healthy is extremely discouraged to the middle class and below. Especially good idea if you consider that health care costs are probably raised considerably from all the health problems that come with fat, so encouraging healthy eating may actually be more cost efficient overall.

That would be assuming food is used solely to build the human body. But it's not. It's mostly use to power it, and a bit to upkeep it.

Do you fill your gas tank with cars?

Do you power your boiler by burning boilers?
