Corrosive Pits V4 Released!

Post by FizWizz »

My latest, and hopefully my last version of Corrosive Pits has been released [edit]wrong, I ended up doing another anyways, link has been updated[/edit]. Three major changes have been made:
(1) the map size has been reduced to 24x24 from 25x25 to fix a freakish glitch where the outside 1x1 of map texture was invisible
(2) The metal concentration has been more than doubled now, so on the patch-ish areas you will extract ~2.5 metal with regular extractors and +8 with Mohos. In the previous versions there was just too little metal.
(3) The gravity has been reduced from 200 to 100 because plasma cannons didn't actually shoot out to their full range.

The map is big, but there are not huge open spaces to build mega-porc bases and such, so spread out a little!

Here are a couple shots of the map as it is now:
Image
A medium-size base

Image
A "checkpoint" of sorts, with a convoy of tanks passing through

Image
A battle on one of the 'bridges'

Image
The same checkpoint from before, but a different perspective and time (notice how these pictures are chronological?)

You can download the map and look at more pictures Here, enjoy!

Gorgeous

Very pretty. Love the dark, moody lighting. Still, it seems somewhat... featureless. Now, you've been working on this map long enough, so I'd say stick a fork in it anyways, but if you want some constructive criticism, I'd make some more unnatural geometry besides the rolling landscape. Make the bridges look like artificial dams - a nice concrete texture and changing the ground material to be indistructible would do that nicely. Plus, some features would add a lot.

Any special ground effects for the acid pools themselves?

trust me, I think I've stuck the fork in it now. I've spent way too long to get the map worked out anyhow. I'd like to do features and such for future maps, but I need to be pointed in the direction of feature-making tutorials first... As for the acid, it doesn't do anything except burn you if you build in it.

It's actually a great map, it's really big and offers unique gameplay imo

However one big drawback..

The metal extractor radius is way to small

this is so frustating that it completely makes this map less fun.

aww crud, I was hoping you would just let it go :P
*sigh* I'll run it through a few more trials to adjust the metal settings. I deleted my source images, so all I could possibly do to it now would be to change .smd settings anyways. Anybody else want to speak up about changes and such?

version 4 of Corrosive Pits.
Changes are:
-MaxMetal reduced to .03 (.05)
-Extractor Radius Increased to 280 (175)
Map Hardness reduced to 250 (300)
green water texture added for people not using reflective water (and it looks good IMO).
!Important! Delete any old version of CorrosivePits. The file is still named as CorrosivePitsV3.sm*! This map is identified as Version 4 in the map description! If you have problems with multiplayer games, make sure everyone else's map description says "!Version 4!" in it.
Metal Extractors can produce as much as +2 metal, but they have to be significantly more spread out.
