I think this arguement totally overlooks the fact that indiedb is for indie games, not TA mods running under spring.

It isn't the IP that is the issue. It is the stolen content, it is the fact that it is is effectively taking a game and putting it in another engine.

This debate has gotten so old and stale. There is a big difference between:

Using IP to create a fan work which is a game that does not exist

and

Taking models, art, sounds, scripts, weapons pretty much the game. Putting it in another engine where you mimic the game you stole the content from.

There is a difference between homage and ripoff.

Don't get so fed up Smoth, nobody cares about TA or Gundam IP except like 5 CA devs (or ZK I guess) and a couple forum old-timers. Less than 1% of Spring players give a shit about IP, and the owners of the IP care even less.

activision is currently on a spree of lawsuits over IP ownership

bandai is suing the shit out of pirates as we speak, and has a history of lawsuits pertaining to their property

where are you getting these numbers from, you sound like a politician :/ its almost as if you believe these rules over intellectual property is some sort of self-imposed shackle that we've put on ourselves; the reality is that you're perfectly welcome to ignore any laws you like but for people actually working on games, or hosting the spring website, or firing any sort of length of time or effort into a project, IP infringement is a very real and troublesome obstacle for fan works. nobodys going to get sued here but a C&D is a very real threat if bandai or activision or whoever got wind of a -popular- game that infringed on their property in such a way that it blocked them from profiting in some way.
