Re: Christmas sales on Steam
I was about to buy a game and they raised the price by the time I got my credit card out. Do they do this often?
Re: Christmas sales on Steam
just when the bigass countdown timer (on the front page) for the end of today's sales and beginning of next day's sales hits zero.bobthedinosaur wrote:I was about to buy a game and they raised the price by the time I got my credit card out. Do they do this often?
Re: Christmas sales on Steam
Currently they cycle the offers at 18:00 UTC which passed about an hour ago, maybe you went over that line.
Right now ArmA II is 75% off, anybody who's into realistic modern war FPSes should pick that up. It's got servers with up to 100 players, many game modes (including RTSy modes with base building, unit production and then deployment), a huge map that can be broken up if you don't want to fight across the whole of it and plenty of developer support and modding. Sleksa reported some pretty awesome stuff from the expansion too.

Re: Christmas sales on Steam
Singleplayer is as always, you fight massive hordes of strange creatures.
You probably dont need the classic serious sams
so serious sam double pack for 2.99 is ok
Multiplayer in first encounter hd is alsmost non existent, I guess the servers are private people hosting games.
Second encounter is still loading
PS I found more servers in the classic serious sam, so it might be worth it.

It's worth trying if you like Doom. FPS without consolization symptoms.Gota wrote:Is it any good?Machete234 wrote:Did anybody buy the serious sam gold pack?

I know what serious sam is...I remember playing one of them and i think an expansion pack...
What i was actually asking is about the HD part...does it really freshen up the game...Does it make you feel like playing it again and yes the multiplayer...
If HD doesn't have multiplayer servers going on than its sort of pointless.

Re: Christmas sales on Steam
I dont understand why they dont let the players with the classic game and the ones with the hd game play together.
The playerbase would be greater.
I think its just an engine update +hi res testures.
They all just play coop so there is not really the "cheating" discussion.
And HD looks a lot better when you compare the games directly.
I just found one acceptable server in HD 100 ping
and some good servers in classic with a 60 ping in amsterdam.
Ill have to download the other games in the pack to tell if there are more servers.

Serious Sam is kind of a spiritual successor to Doom/Doom 2, since most FPS titles have since gone in a more realistic direction than Doom/Doom2. It's very good - instead of careful, intelligent AIs and plotted battlefields, they go for a variety of different monsters with stupid, predictable behavior in greater numbers than I have ever seen in an FPS. It's incredibly fun.
The $4 includes original Sam 1st/2nd. If you just want the HD versions, you can get that pack for $3.
The only flaw with Sam is that the first levels are obviously still feeling the gameplay out - it feels like a poor-mans' Doom 3... overdesigned corridors with regularly-spaced scripted surprises. Walk in to room, guy teleports behind you, repeat ad nauseum.
But the later scenes when they throw that crap out the window and focus on large, pitched battles are so good it makes it worth it.

Re: Christmas sales on Steam
Overall I prefer the Earth Defense Force games. The enemies there are just more satisfying to kill.

I enjoyed L4D2. If you liked L4D you'll like it, and if you thought L4D was a little incomplete you may like it with the additions. I can't recommend Killing Floor enough, though.
Serious Sam HD is good with good friends. I've had some decent experiences with various people from here.
