Added a nice, up-to-date shot for Zero-K, along with a pretty demo pic for bumpwater.

Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
I see updated screenshots but the latest news is still from March 8th 2010 and the release date is still set to april 2005 (which I guess is technically accurate... but misleading)

Fixed a bunch or errors and general fuglyness.
Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
I have been mashing my brain against the summary text and this is what I've come up with so fae
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spring is an free, open source, fully 3D, real-time strategy game engine. Originally designed to run content from Total Annihilation, there are still several popular projects for the Spring Engine that have their roots in TA and various popular TA mods. Since it's early days, the engine has matured significantly. While retaining some support for units in TA formats, games for the Spring Engine can now be developed using more modern technologies. Using the Lua scripting language <http://www.lua.org/about.html> to allow everything from extending the GUI and Gameplay to Unit Animation, allowing units to be created in most modern 3D model formats (through plug-ins and converters) and having an extensible AI framework all while having an open licencing model (GNU GPL), the Spring Engine is an excellent choice for any RTS Game Developers. Several different projects covering a wide range of popular RTS genre's and diverse themes have already been built for the Spring Engine establishing it as a key contributor to the future success of open source gaming and free to play games.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also think we need to come up with a "unlikely to become obsoleted while making us look awesome" list of "developer minded" features...

- All games built for the Spring engine offer multi-player support through the ÔÇ£Spring Lobby ServerÔÇØ and a ÔÇ£Spring Lobby ClientÔÇØ.
- Extend or replace the GUI and Gameplay elements with Lua Scripting
- Optionally allow Deformable Terrain: have weapons and explosions crater the landscape, allow players to terraform, make maps that change throughout a match or anything else through Lua scripting
- Built in RTS functionality inspired by Total Annihilation allows someone with little programming experience to get up and running while Advanced developers can, using the power of Lua, make whatever RTS game they want (up to and exceeding the abilities of commercial RTS engines)

Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
I like it sinbad
I'll stick this in the description, but it would be best if there were more. Could you perhaps take what you have written and expound upon it even more?
Edit: NM, what you have there is perfect (I edited it somewhat to make it fit the parameters of indiedb (First paragraph had to fit in 1000 characters)

Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
Until we get assimp this is stretching the truth more than a littleallowing units to be created in most modern 3D model formats (through plug-ins and converters)

Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
Especially since Forb took the "(through plug-ins and converters)" part out to make it fit.FLOZi wrote:Until we get assimp this is stretching the truth more than a littleallowing units to be created in most modern 3D model formats (through plug-ins and converters)
perhaps we can just use:
allowing units to be created in many different 3D modelling programs?
or strike it entirely

I just very recently realized the topic of discussion in this thread had moved from yelling at SwiftSpear. I haven't had the chance to catch up on the whole thread.
Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
Double-post because topic is different and time has passed.
Replaced the old Engine Preview image (how it shows up in the list):

Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
MK's image is getting replaced quite soon (sorry mk, that is even more fugly than the original), when I finish shooping the preview image anyway.
Edit: Not more fugly, but not really any better.

For starters, the giant spring engine thing in the center that really doesn't serve a purposeMidKnight wrote:Help me improve! What's wrong with it?

Sure it does!
Also, that's one of the "official" logos. I disclaim any and all fugly-ness associated by that logo's weird stretching and stuff.

Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
Just because everyone besides source does it rong, doesn't mean that we have to as well

Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
The status of that particular form of the logo is questionable, and Im currently thinking about a replacement or alternative. If possible use a spring logo with the text underneath and the text below not on the blue
Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
I disagree, a clear logo make the thing much more memorable than a screenshot. Then MidKnight's attempt tries to be both logo and screenshot, and this is where it fails: The screenshot part make the logo uncomfortably busy, the logo part cover up the screenshot. I'd say it should be logo only.Forboding Angel wrote:Just because everyone besides source does it rong, doesn't mean that we have to as well
Re: someone delete Spring from moddb
I would just show the logo as well, the engine preview image is supposed to be an identifiable symbol for prospective developers - people looking for games aren't going to find it alone.
