imo do not bother promoting games too much on the spring ENGINE page. just some pictures or w/e and then link to the games page if they have one.

I would suggest that we include at least one "Gameplay Camera + Gameplay GUI" shot for each game that we have shots for... also, someone who has one of those "customized with a tonne of widgets" setups could upload that as an example of customization

I don't want that. People who have hyper customized shit also run spring on bare minimum making it look like ass on a pile of dead rats and I will delete any BA shot I see.

"BUT BUT, you need to represent BA" no I don't it is more than represented. I am trying to show an engine with people actually making shit. People already know that spring has ta crap. What I don't want is developers thinking that is all spring does so I am fighting that already well vomited reputation.

I do agree on the customized layout stuff but I don't want to see another shot in that listing that has shadows off or settings down to minimum. It looks like crap and hurts the image of the engine.

I see what you are saying about user customization smoth, and really, user customization isn't a developer feature anyways... but the "actual usage" shots are important.

I would like the "actual usage" shots to be produced on a system that can handle the high end graphics at the same time as the GUI, yes.

I've got plenty of HQ shots with GUI and without, I'll chuck out as much stuff as possible by the end of the week.

I would like to see someone do an article(feature) about the history of spring. neddie you could probably write it up pretty good. I think it would be neat to do something that explains the TA3d replayer ->prerelease starwars-> present crazy state.

So do I, and my hardware is old as shit (nearly 4 or 5 yrs old iirc) and if you've paid attention to my shots, I consistently have 115 fps.

Athlon x64 dual core 3ghz
4gb ddr2
nvidia 9600GT 1gb gddr3

I play with everything on except dynamic water (I like bumpmapped, dynamic is just stupid and a silly resource drain).

I play sc2 with all settings maxed (as in, ultra). I cant remember the last time I played a game where the gfx settings weren't cranked up to the highest.

Edit: Oh yes I do, modern warfare, I had to keep the aa settings at x4 instead of higher cause x8 ate my framerate, at x4 everything was nice and buttery smooth.

Stop trying to play on laptops and shitty integrated intel and ati cards. 90% of the current spring community thinks that BA and all things spring should play perfectly on their 486sx2.

Commercial games, (even Total Annihilation) use photoshopped renders as promotional screenshots. Low angle and high details is at least something you can really do in Spring.

Here's some crap I wrote in the last few hours:

The Spring project has itÔÇÖs roots in the Total Annihilation modding scene. Total Annihilation was one of the first Real-Time Strategy Games for which the developers provided tools to create maps and alter and add units. This developer support was augmented by community web-sites and third-party tools that kept interest up for the Total Annihilation long after itÔÇÖs developer went belly up and itÔÇÖs IP and distribution rights were scattered to the four winds.

A group of exemplary Total Annihilation modders/hackers know as ÔÇ£The Swedish YankspankersÔÇØ had a TA mod (XTA) and a number of tools (TA 3D demo viewer) under their belt already when they set out to create an entirely new game and game engine. Because they lacked the graphical and modelling skills they initially chose to build an engine that could load up Total Annihilation content.

Over the years most of the original team has moved on to other projects and key figures from the Total Annihilation scene have migrated to the Spring project. While the engine still supports some of the old file formats still have support in the Spring Engine and many games built on the engine still use gameplay elements and assets from Total Annihilation, a number of fully independent games (some with roots as ports of Total Conversion projects made for Total Annihilation) have been released for the engine. New model, map, and scripting formats have superseded Total Annihilation based formats for the most part.

good text but that sentence is super long and has some screw up in first part.

Total Annihilation devs never provided any tool to edit units. Every other RTS had a map editor in that time. XTA was not exemplary.

If you're going to leave the spring game section up, I'd leave BA shots there, since most spring "mods" are mods of the original TA content left in spring.

Well thing is the general opinion when people see spring is "isn't that the ta thing" I spent an hour in chat with a fellow who was under the impression that all the spring projects are nothing more than ta mods.
