New mod - Recruiting!

Post by Das Bruce »

So yeah, lots of mods being produced I thought I'd make a truely pwnage one.

Spring : 1943

Basically an eastern front mod.

But since I'm totally new to these modding shenanigans, I thought it would be best if I formed a team, so basically if you've got some skill and are willing to lend a hand contact me some how, any help is appreciated.

More info on my website

Flozi is also making a ww2 mod, but his is more focused on the western front, while Spring : 1943 will focus on the eastern front, where all the REAL battles took place :P

The western front had godly tank battles. In fact, taking away north africa, it had all the most important tank battles.

One of them, was at the plains of Kursk. It was a huuuge battle at the time the nazis were starting to sink and were desperatly trying to counter attack. It was so important that the russians gave it's name to a submarine, the Kursk which sank some time ago, if you remember.

Kursk is a Russian city. The submarine was named after it, and the other subs of its type were (and most still are) named after other major cities.
And your post makes it look like the Kursk battle was on western front. It was western only for Russians, for Allies and Germans that was eastern front. Germans tried to straighten the front line and encircle several Soviet armies in the process, Soviets were aware of this and prepared heavy defences, resulting in biggest tank battle in all the WW2 (or even all the history, I'm not sure about this).
A mod about this will be interesting. It will need a lot of info on tanks and other vehicles used back then. I know of some Russian sites with such data, if it's needed, ask me, I'll post links.

Why not just create the Russian side for AATA? It already has all the german stuff... (Oh and several Russian models pre-done too)

Oh and a russian buildtree is already made too... and you wouldn't have to much much scipting as you just use a standard AATA script slightly modified, and it has a finely tuned weapon damage model and a good balance basis (well I know you disagree with that ;) )...

Yeah, just lend a hand to AATA instead of go creating another failed mod attempt.

I'd rather have one complete WW2 mod that two unfinished ones.

The problem is AATA isn't really the style we're going for, this may have changed however, so I'll take another look.

Define 'style we're looking for'.

I'm open to changes - to a degree. Afterall, it isn't my mod. (Not that Spiked would probably care if I radically changed it all)

There were atleast 3 other ww2 mods for TA... A&A was the only one to get to beta releases.

this reminds me on pointing out some older ideas ...

pre-made roads on maps
pre-made railroads on maps
pre-made road and railroad bridges on maps
roads construction / destruction
railroads construction / destruction

and similar ...

I would love a WW1 mod Zombie! No Man's Land FTW!

But I think it would be great if a Russian side was added to AATA, i'd gladly make a few Ruski units :) T-34 :)

We'd need to have earthworking units to build trenches. And barbed wire that just slow's the enemy units and damages them. And some machine guns. And several million solders to go over the top.

Oh and some (Cl)2(CH2)4

You could probably do barbed wire by making it a landmine without an explosion and a 0 damage modifier for tank class.

And no min3mat, it has to be an entire topic. :P

Odd that the topic of a World War 1 mod has come up - over the past week or so I've been brainstorming and doing some preliminary research and conceptual development on just such a mod.

For the rest of this post and indeed the entire topic of the Great War, see this thread!

[world war 1 yada yada yada]

A rough model of the T-34/76 for you. Still to be done: treads, texturing, more detailing, etc... 248 polys so far.

Hope you like it! Sorry about the nasty background color...

Modeled in Wings-3D, which I already like better than Blender... but I may use Blender for some detailing etc. as it's more powerful.
