Problems getting mods to work

Post by Terazilla »

I'm currently teaching a class during which the students are asked to create a new map for Spring. I've never had a problem with it before, but I'm setting up a build with .82.6.1 and for the life of me I can't get it to recognize a mod.

Here's what I'm doing:

* Download the portable archive from here.
* Unzip it into a Spring82 folder.
* Download a map (I'm using DeltaSiegeDry.sd7)
* Place the map in the maps folder
* Download a mod (I'm using XTAPEV96.sdz)
* Place the mod in the mods folder
* Unzip base-ota-content into the base folder

From there, if I run spring.exe, I can select the map just fine, but I can't get the mod to show up at all. I've tried a couple others (Kernel Panic) and they don't show up either.

I really need to get this to work, if there's anyone with suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

I can only assume there is some problem with the portable installer, which I can't test from my present location. Have you tried the full engine installer available here; http://sourceforge.net/projects/springr ... e/download ? It could also be a permissions conflict if you're running on Vista or Windows 7.

Hopefully somebody else will respond to the thread soon, I apologize for my inability to offer an immediate solution.

1) Which OS are you running? If windows then just use http://springfiles.com/1683 which contains every files needed and plainly works out of the box.

2) Where did you get your mods? Link please. How old are them? This summer, Spring dropped support of all old mods. This would result in the exact symptom you desribed (mod not showing up in the menu even though you put it in/mods/).

Note: The XTAPEV96.sdz that I found at http://springfiles.com/922 is a typical exemple: It doesn't contain the modinfo.lua therefore is ignored by Spring 0.82 and over.

You didn't mention which version of Kernel Panic you used. The last version of Kernel Panic is 4.1. Don't use any older KP version with Spring 0.82. (even if they showed up in the mod list, they'd lack start unit).

3) I'm not sure what you exactly mean by "Unzip base-ota-content into the base folder" but I am pretty sure you should NOT do that. For many reasons: Base content are not to be unzipped, OTA is no more part of base content nor even required by any mod.

As a Community Lead, you're expected to be reliable and not spread disinformation. I just tested the portable installer that Terazilla linked to, and it works very fine, ty.

As a Community Lead, I'm sure you remember modinfo.tdf support being dropped, which fit perfectly the symptoms Terazilla suffer from.
