It's not called unit mixing, its called using oped units i.e. Goliaths and levelers....[RRU]RockmoddeR wrote:Major high five. Just today I teamed up with Mirlitelle and did a golly rampage. I provided the golly, and Mirlitelle provided 5 or so levelers and 3 slashers + con for golly. The slashers killed probably 20 or so bladewings that would've stopped the golly, and the levelers killed the kbotspam. We took out 4 players that way. Let's hear it for unit mixing!

on any decent sized map levelers are practically useless except in specific circumstances as any player with a high speed unit will simply ignore the levelers and bypass them entirely without any worry of being intercepted

Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
Levelers are everything but useless...shit,they are even usable in 1v1 on CCR!! against kbots they rule and they are also awesoem against nay sort of swarmed units.
Gloiathes since buff are amazingly oped.

Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
Levellers are slow, fail hard in large groups, and painfully short ranged. Yes, they're useful in their anti-raider function, but in a larger-unit battle they just get in the way. Just guessing, but I'd think cost in bulldogs or reapers would make mincemeat out of the leveller + goli army, not to mention being far more mobile.
Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
They just need proper positioning in large numbers. They are quite useful in large battles, depending on enemy composition. Goli+leveler should at least make cost vs pure bulldogs or reapers (golis should do better, the bigger the armies are), though yes they are slower.Pxtl wrote:Levellers are slow, fail hard in large groups, and painfully short ranged. Levelers are usable on almost any map but so is flash, gator or stumpy... It's just a unit core needs unless they can end the game with gators. Goli is a bit silly though

If 15 levelers are moving in on your defensive line you had better be fuckin scared. They will completely decimate any t1 defense of equal cost.forest_devil wrote:on any decent sized map levelers are practically useless except in specific circumstances as any player with a high speed unit will simply ignore the levelers and bypass them entirely without any worry of being intercepted
They are slow but they're tough and they do a shit ton of damage with a huge splash. If you're using them against faster units with longer range, of course they're going to die, that's because you're using them wrong, not because they're bad.
But yes unit mixing is key. Got a scout problem? Build warriors/levelers. If you have trouble with low-rof units and scouts you're doing it wrong. You should already be microing pene/banisher/sniper even without the scouts, if you're going to build those units building a scout counter to go with them is a no-brainer, you should always do that.

the point is that in a 1v1 its unlikely thats youll get 15 levelers while someones light tanks are swarming your base :)
dont get me wrong i love levelers they just dont do good as a pure spam in large open areas

Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
in enclosed space, they really are monsters. everywhere else - not so much. either ignore and drive around, or outmanoeuver with a T-formation
Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
If levelers are useful in 1v1 comet they are useful anywhere.
Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
Do levellers even beat Stumpies in a 1 vs. 1?
Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
Depends. But how does that matter into anything, you won't see situation like that in a real game...Pxtl wrote:Do levellers even beat Stumpies in a 1 vs. 1?
Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
Well, my point is that people are raving about the awesome power of the leveller, and every experience I've had with it is pretty lackluster except for fighting kbots and flash/instigators.
Even facing flashes/instigators, the levellers can become useless after wrecks start blocking their shots. And once there are wrecks to reclaim, the battle is doubly important to win... so seeing them pounding rounds into a blocked target and lumber around while the other tanks either freely roll through the battlefield or chuck plasma over the corpses is really frustrating.
I'm just saying levellers are spectacular in that first moement of "damn, it pwned all those peewees!" but once the battle starts getting chaotic they often turn out less impressive.

if you just compare cost, dps and hp, levelers will beat stumpies. add in aoe, and levelers beat stumpies by a big margin. then, movement speed and trajectory play a role as well.

I use levelers more than probably any other spring player, and stumpies/raiders are the only t1 units that scare meHackfresser wrote:if you just compare cost, dps and hp, levelers will beat stumpies. add in aoe, and levelers beat stumpies by a big margin. then, movement speed and trajectory play a role as well.

For some resaon the levelers just cant damage them enough before the stumpies are amongst the levelers. You then start damaging your own units with the large aoe.

Re: fatboys, goliaths, aoe and friendly fire
janus are easy kills when you roll at them, i always mix in slashers to kill rockos(though properly microed rockos with rez bots can be a problem,) plasma kbots get owned easily because they only just outrange levelers, and beamers can be rushed just like any other tower.
I think levelers are a awesome ,though as with any army, its important to mix rather than spam one unit.
