I don't think that's quite what I asked for but you're correct these threads are indeed advanced warning.

What I was looking for was help with an advanced notification of the date/time the Spring engine would switch to the new. A schedule like this allows people like me to plan around the switch. Now it looks like that's not possible but my second post did read back as just looking for a warning of impending doom; which is entirely self-referencing in the thread of the impending change!

This is not a professional project, you are on a free server so the switch often happens when someone has a good opportunity to do it. I don't quite see what you need to schedule around this. It isn't like you have a project that is dependent on this engine.

Any idea when the ubuntu repo will be updated? Seems to lag behind recent releases.

This means this 82.6 is more some sort of release candidate, to let everybody an opportunity to check there's no bugs before the actual release.

But if you mean that the Ubuntu repo is still using a version older than 82.5, then you need to find out who maintain the Unbuntu repo, and bug that person. It might not be a Spring dev that manage Ubuntu repo.

Oh no, it's far, far more important than another project. I'm looking to schedule my life around Spring RTS engine changes. (smilie face thing).

As a gentleman of advancing years, with a young family, occasionally playing BA under Linux means sudden changes to the Spring engine occasionally add a bit too much latency for me to get with it all in time to play with a few mates of mine on those sadly all too rare evenings. Hence my slightly tongue in cheek, but heartfelt, statement that I'd be quite happy to re-schedule what little gaming life I lead around any updates. It would give me the time to update my machine in readiness for my next scheduled bout of online excess.

Alas, you've answered my question in your first sentence. We can't all be updating when it suits it would appear! Hope that made a bit of sense even if it is all about me :)

if you get together with mates for LAN games, you all have an old version installed, discover there is an update, and do not want to waste time on it, just run your own lobby server.
