What about if: maps were spheres?

Post by Wolfword »

Because
maps tend to have #cough# ugly edges. Strange color otside maps, even planes get outside the map when they attack!!!!

Of course these are only minor things, but making maps as spheres (Like planets) would fix this. And when we want to see the hole map, it would transform in a rectangle.

Maybe this can be weird but...

Do you have any idea how hard it is to represent a sphere as a rectangle? And how small your sphere would have to be?

Make a whole solar system, players both start on the same planet but they can move to other nearby planets and start new bases there, then move their units with big interplanetary transports, and new fancy weapons that make planets explode. It's the next stage in Springs evolution and you all know it.

Spring is not ba hobojoe. That is not a viable suggestion for all projects.

And it will make my super computer go boom! (I can only play desert with lowest settings)

But this can be the re-born of PLANETS WARS

Got it? Planets? Huge galactic battles? No?

Sure, it would represent a challenge to veterans, but they are so experts that they will get adapted in no time.

What, because the newbs would be insanely pro at planet wars, and all vets just naturally quite bad?

Really, do you have any idea what in the hell youre talking about, or what your point is?

Fork this engine or make a new one. Good spherical maps are not possible to do using Spring, sure you could write a spherical game engine in lua and overwrite a lot of Spring's stuff but once you do that you may as well fork the engine into a spherical version.
