moms not home, time to use the N BOMB!

also : for pc lan fun, just visit your local net cafe. the few dollars you'll spend there are a small price to pay instead of getting everyone to bring their pc to your home

I still love the cinematic atmosphere of halo, this way to take the drama from the cutscenes into the game- one second your the superhero, the next second cowering behind a stonepillar, fearing for your live from a dropping leave, its a rollercoaster of emotions, and only massive skripted titles like hl2 or similar come even close to that atmo. Also it stole its aliens from david brin, and thats a good place to steal.

I also never understood why pc-shooters were always so late to jump upon the sidekick train, that consoles featured since centurys. Most devteams really give shit about the story (undeerstandable with the workload=constupdating graphics+multiplayer[equals2games], yet still unforgiveable)

A well told story, can hide old technology, it can make it invisible, watery eyes bluring pixels into man, heads shaking over betrayel making up for poor polygons, fear jerking your head back from the screen making nonantialias unseen, and by drawing you back long after your noob rage-quit, put the recharghealth forevar on stealth.

Regenerating health is the WORST thing to happen to FPS. I cannot think of a more retarded and gameplay-ruining feature, and it disgusts me how many games include it now.

I think it's something which makes Halo different from other FPS's. I quite like it, it has a fair amount of advantages as well as a few disadvantages sure, but I don't think Halo would be Halo without shields. I guess that's why I wasn't too found of ODST.

I dont care about the regenerative health, i care about the shield, that forces you behind cover from time to time, giving the experience rythm, a constant change between attack, defense, and the surprise moments in between, when your beeping suit tells you - its time.

VS

a computer, even a laptop, which is 100% one-per-person and requires desk or table space to use the mouse effectively (fuck touchpads). lots of people all sat on their laptops feels anti-social. lots of people jostling for space on the sofa and giving eachother dead arms feels awwlright.

I prefer computer games to dumbed down console games by a large margin, and prefer mouse and keyboard to console controller by a factor of infinity in terms of control- but I also prefer RL company to sitting plugged into a computer. this is probably less of an issue for people who live alone, with their parents, with a spouse or have no rl friends, but for me the splitscreen console experience wins every time.
Well then your experience is just different from mine in this case. I live with five other flatmates, we generally play three or four player PC games. We find it more convenient and worthwhile than clustering around the entertainment center, which has upwards of thirty consoles connected to it. It takes two minutes to jump into Killing Floor, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Plain Sight, etcetera which is competitive in terms of startup time with Halo, New Super Mario Brothers, Super Smash Brothers Melee.

When only two of us are interested in gaming, the entertainment center makes a come back - we can pop in Tetris 2, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Street Fighter 2, etc. The entertainment center generally also takes precedence in parties. We have no problems in terms of social feeling in either situation... though the rage of TF2 can sometimes be taken outside of the game.

What always pissed me off as a computer gamer is the technical difficulties, every lan game has to wrestle first. And there always are. And everybody looks to the guy with the highest tech level - fixit fixit fixit. Consoles work, or are finnished, there is rarely a inbetween.

No Firewall this Port Open, no DSL screws the hub so friends from afar have to stay out of game, no messenger screwed up girlz-pc, were even disabling the most memory draining shit results in shouting matches, not even the legendary windows format c:s, just plug& play. I hate console games, but the console tech is tested, its a sweet dream to develop and tweak for.

tl,dr; technological armsrace of pc is a double edged swoard
