Hello,
I am a complete noob here; I was hoping that you don't need a Microsoft certification to just download and play some singleplayer RTS games, but after spending 2 hours of my life trying to figure out how to get anything to work I thought I might trouble you for some help- I downloaded and installed the spring engine and the latest.net framework and all that seems to work fine, but when I go to http://springrts.com/wiki/GamesDownloads to choose a game, it says: Below are three Spring games that comes with complete installer (containing all the files you need to play those games):
so I click one one (Kernel Panic, for ex), and I get
http://springrts.com/wiki/Image:Kernel_Panic_3.4.jpg,
which seems to be a .jpg and a bunch of links to the same page in different languages. What am I misisng here? the previous pages said here are three spring games complete with installer and all I see is a .jpg?
Could someone please tell me what/where I need to go to get a game loaded into the spring engine?
Sincerely,
Nephillim3

Well since you already have the engine installed, one thing you can do is visit:
http://springfiles.com/
to get maps and mods/games. Once you double click them spring should move them to the correct folder automatically and they should show up in the lobby of your choice. A word of caution though, the engine recently had an update in which older games/mods do not work. So make sure you have the most up to date version. Also if you check each subforum normally you can find links to the latest game/mod.
Another route you can choose is to start up Spring Downloader. Once started click the downloader tab and search for the game/mod/map you want. If you have any other questions just ask.

Thank you for the quick turnaround; I will try that and see what happens

That's a common pitfall of wikis: Click the text, not the image!so I click one one (Kernel Panic, for ex), and I get

To install Evolution RTS, just download this: http://evolutionrts.info/random/rapid.zip
Extract to your spring directory, and double click "rapid.bat".

How do you start the spring downloader? I see the download tab but I could not find anything under the "server, edit, view, tools, or help" dropdown menus that mention anything about that. Is that a separate component that needs to be installed somewhere?

When you say spring directory do you mean " C:\Program Files\Spring" or do the files need to go to a subdirectory like "maps" or "mods"? I clicked the bat file, it ran briefly in a cmd window, then nothing else seems to happen. I had the spring lobby window open while doing this; I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it at that point.
Thank you for your help
Re: I can't get any game loaded into the spring engine
spring downloader is a standalone .exe in your installation folder, and can be used as a multiplayer lobby as well as single player launcher / content grabber.
for installing evo, once you've run the rapid.bat, then all of the files you need should already be installed in your maps/mods directory... run spring.exe directly or go into a lobby to see these new options.
for single player battles, my suggestions would be:
Complete Annihilation chicken defense on chicken nuggets map
Kernel Panic heroes mode on any kernel panic map
EvoRts on any map against "shard AI"
anyways, im sorry to hear you've spent some time getting set up, but i think if you use springdownloader it should simplify things and get you gaming within moments.
welcome to the spring community, we're glad to have you, and hope you have a good time :D there's the possibility for thousands of hours of challenging fun; RTS gamings best kept secret.

Put the rapid stuff in your program files/spring folder. It will auto look for a writeable dir.
