This may turn out to be just another newbie with just another idea, however i do intend to carry this out till i hit the brick wall if one exists along the path.
okay, so self pep talk over ;D i plan to port Winter Maul Wars of Warcraft 3 custom game fame to Spring using *A units, (mostly because its a easy start, once i get more accustomed to spring i can make my own units).
I have the idea down but im looking at spring here with a rabbit in headlights kind of expression, i have no previous (other than AI configs) coding experience, all my experience is actually with 3d modeling.
Where does one even start? how do i find a list of commands that are usable.
the 3 main ones i need are:
P1 spawns unit for P3 team from building
P3 unit automatically follows and assigned route
if P3 unit kills :key structure: game is over.
i could rig it so the game spawns a construction unit as well as a immobile commander so the P3 unit kills the com and game is over.
Where to start? Mod creation.

Re: Where to start? Mod creation.
Taking TA units would be illegal. I don't know what's Winter Maul Wars, but description sounds like some TD or DOTA, with creeps spawned from base an automatically heading for the other base. Why don't you take KDR_11k's units? Or chickens? (the first chicken was actuall a KDR_11k unit) Or look into model base? Or get in touch with a nice looking mod and ask if you can borrow their model? Gnome, Smoth, Quantum were making a Spring TD, but I'm afraid we can't talk about that.
Re: Where to start? Mod creation.
WMW was, well, a competitive TD.
Basically you you had 2 teams of 4 who would build towers along 2 paths to stop the mobs getting to your ship.
The gold could also be spent on sending various mobs to the opponents side, each mob sent would increase your gold income per min (1m 7s iirc was the time between payouts) Different mobs costing different amounts and increasing your income in different amounts
Although thats a explanation of the mechanics it doesnt convey how good the game actually was, now i see it on paper it honestly doesnt sound that exciting but it was a very popular mod almost as much as Footman frenzy

It's defiantly possible. A TD game called Spring TD has been released and it has a tower wars mode, it has svn here svn://svn.caspring.org:4000/towerdefense.sdd
I'm not sure how you should start but if you want to create anything beyond a normal RTS game you will need to know some lua.

I mean, playable and fairly finished, or is it just the SVN of a WIP we weren't suppose to spread?

It is pretty well done, it just lags like a mother when the game advances into larger waves.

Quantum's game has already been played many times on the lobby.zwzsg wrote:Google_Frog wrote:Spring TD has been releasedFor real?

You can also download it from SD (SpringDownloader) through the downloader tab by selecting SD (Spring Defense). Coincidence? You decide. It's fully playable, with single and multi player options.
