Most of the time (yes I take BA as an exemple), the reason why a game is won on an (open) front depends on the coordination of the attacks.
Team A sometimes may have double units of team B if attacking with tanks is not coordinates with allies, team A will fail. This is the reason why good players are so willing to take other players units. Also, it seems natural not to be able to micro front all the time since you usually do other stuffs in the mean time like :
- micro raid on other part of the map
- micro air raid
- micro commander drop
- optimize eco
- ...
Anyway, the request I would like to be part of spring is the ability for users to define zones (squares ?) where:
- predifined allies (stored in a wish list of his choice) can take the control of his own units
- original player that control the unit can take control back of the unit at anytime
- option: if the units leave the area, the allies dont have the control of the unit anymore
I think this will enhance the diversity of the gameplay since someone could fully focus on something else if he wants to, and in the mean time, it will not handicapped his team by not microing at front(s).
I already know that some poeple will tell me to share unit instead of implement that but sharing predifined units all the time is quite time consuming (a few second can make you loose some time to micro)
The reason I play spring is because of its awsome GUI/ability to macro hundred of different unit in a very efficient way that no other game I know can do. I realy think this kind of feature will make spring a little bit more ... spring ... pushing further away what makes spring so awsome
I realy dont know if there is any chance it could happen since I realize the ID definition of the player could be a problem
Anyhow, I hope it will be possible one day
Zone Sharing

Re: Zone Sharing
we can implement a widget-based secondary selection/control system so you can send commands to allowed allied units via lua messages
Re: Zone Sharing
The zonal part sounds unnecessary. If they drive the tank off, then suddenly lose control of it cause it crossed a line, now you need to sort the mess out... hopefully you are paying attention. I can't see how that would be useful or easy to display.
Sharing to only certain allies sounds ideal but kind of fiddly to implement.
How about if you could share units to a team pool then anyone on team could issue them orders. Like an optional unit-by-unit coop mode. I predict all sorts of arguments and never ending entertainments :)

Re: Zone Sharing
Something like this would also be tremendously useful if your ping goes high, to allow anyone in the pool to control your units for a short while. Eliminates the need to pause.
Re: Zone Sharing
maybe have an extra/special/coop-team per ally-team, which's units can be controlled by every player in the ally team. then you would share your units into that team. maybe allow the original owner of the units to take them back at any time.
if we had the engine side supported ability for a player to control multiple teams, it would also open the way for other things, for example, a pro helping his noob ally, while still playing his own team (probably only viable in the first few minutes of a game).
And other possibility would be, one player managing the base/eco of 3 teams, while the other two players coordinate the front.
of course you can do that with coop too, but with this, you are more free, as you could break up the cooperation at any time, and form new ones.

Re: Zone Sharing
as I sugest it was just an option u can decide according zones. Basic behaviour should be to be able to keep the unit shared starting it enters the zonemomfreeek wrote:The zonal part sounds unnecessary.
