Add maps in linux

Post by Shadowbane_92 »

Okay, I'm new to linux, and have just installed ubuntu today. I downloaded and installed spring fine, but now I cannot figure out how to add maps to it. It says to copy the files to ~.spring/maps, but I have no idea where to find said directory. Can anyone help? Thankyou so much.

Its "~/.spring/maps"

The ~ stands for your home directory.

The period in ".spring" means that it is a hidden folder. There are a lot of folders hidden in your home so it doesn't clutter up when you go looking for stuff.

So open up a file manager to home, then press Ctrl+H or select View->Show Hidden files and you should see .spring in there, and the maps folder should be in there. If you don't see a maps folder already, go ahead and make it, and then put the maps in there.

well, there was no .spring folder, so I created one, put the maps in and it still couldn't detect them. I installed spring from the ubuntu 10.04 repository, if that makes a difference.

Hmm, have you installed a program called SpringLobby? If not, install that. It is basically the front end for the engine.

its not ~/.spring, just ~/spring/maps that's used.

Why isn't the Spring Installer that moved the maps/mods to right dir automatically included anymore though :/

What? It IS ~/.spring/maps get your folders right. Ubuntu installs if installed correctly have the .spring folder but the folders "maps" and "mods" need to be created or downloading via springlobby gives errors about moving them as they don't have folders...i wish someone would fix that.

Dunno about you but it's definitely ~/spring/maps on this comp, with Ubuntu... Interesting

okay, somehow I've managed to put What I thought were maps into the mods dropdown box. I copied the three map files (BA715.sd7, NOTA1632.sd7 and WarEvolution1.7.sdz, in case anyone was wondering) into the maps folder (located on the fat32 partition of my external hard drive, for some reason) but they show up in the mods dropdown box in springlobby.

:D thats cause htey are actually mods. ;-) put them in the mods fodler instead.

JohannesH, are you sure your ~/spring/ is not a symlink to ~/.spring/ ?
that is the only thing that would make sense.

either get them from springlobby by right clicking in the battle list and selecting download map, or go to springfiles.com
