Idea: Team ticket widget

Post by KDR_11k »

The "clean out area X" stuff in the marketplace thread got me thinking: How about a ticket-system-like widget for (large?) team games that lets players specify tasks they need done and have them listed? E.g. if one player is heavy on air units but lacks ground forces he could deal out a ticket "I need the anti-air turrets in this area destroyed" and all allies would be able to see those tickets and possibly say that they'll do the job so it's clearer who's going to do what. Could come with an option to assign a player to a task right away if it's clear that one specific player should be doing the job. I think it could help with communication in large team games and give players who aren't sure what to do next an inspiration.

Of course it'd be based on a trust system, an asshole could still claim he'll work on everything and never do it but in a team game you're supposed to be working with each other anyway.

Examples of ticket types:
Make factory X (at location Y)
Fortify location X (against air/ground/sub/nuke)
Clear enemy units at location X (of type mobile/ground/air/etc)
Give unit X (to player Y)
Claim metal in area X (or reclaim/claim geo spots)
Use super weapon on location X (signal/obelisk/firewall)
Build X more Y (like 10 solars)
Give X resources (to player Y)

The point of tickets vs regular chat lines/markers is that they make it easier to indicate when somebody has taken a task and when it is done.

Just put a labelled marker!

Also, voicechat.

Tickets would be too cumbersome to manage ingame.

The point of tickets vs regular chat lines/markers is that they make it easier to indicate when somebody has taken a task and when it is done.
Train people to put an 'Ok' marker below markers they agree to.

This idea strongly reminds me of Majesty (which is a very good thing)
And I would be very interested in trying it. Especially with m/e or unit rewards being offered for tickets.
