Casino Royale (1966)
the most confusing, annoying, funniest james bond movie.
Its like james bond on LSD and the bad guy is woody allen.
If you want to throw away 2h of your life this is the film.

We were soldiers.
One of the best war films I'v seen if not the best.
Based of course on the real battle and people.
On a different level than "hollywoodish" films like saving private ryan.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0277434/
The directors aim was to create a film that depicted as truthfully as possible a real time event.
Many of the words used by the dying men are documented as being the actual words etc...

Ninja Assassin: Rubbish. Totally unrealistic fighting, no interesting storyline, regularly breaks the laws of physics..
If you're forced to watch 10 shit films, i suggest watching Ninja Assassin before you start the 10, so that by comparison, they seem rather good

Small Soldiers (1988)
It's awesome because it's like Toy Story, except the toys are alive because they have crazy intelligent smart-bomb AI chips in them and they try to kill you.

Once Were Warriors, New Zealands premier romantic comedy.

Re: Movie reccomendation
"Ninja Assassin" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". I liked them and thought that someone should recommend them. In "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" Nicolas Cage made a great sorcerer and turned attacking wolves into cute puppies! This was a light and happy, typical coming-of-age movie. If your looking for something that fits that description I recommend it.
"Ninja Assassin" had some cool fight scenes and, of course, the ninja's had seemingly, supernatural powers just because they were ninjas. Characteristics of the ninjas include having inhuman healing capabilities, manipulating the environment to achieve a desired effect, and extremely heightened senses. The main ninja character was handsome too.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice?
This movie isn't even a good film for kids.
Harry potter series is far better and at least has a harmonious plot.
This movie is pure cash machine with a very well done trailer. If i had kids I'd seriously not take them to watch it.
For adults this movie is just insulting IMO.
When you leave the theater after watching they should play Jerry bruckheimer's voice saying "fooled you!".

watched green zone last night; was pretty cool... an interpretation of why the USA went back to iraq to look for WMDs... if you liked ones like enemy at the gates and black hawk down its probably something you'd enjoy.
street trash is a movie thats difficult to categorize... if you like a good laugh and don't mind being grossed out, its worth a try... a horror comedy about the lives of hobos living in a junkyard, with some of the most hilarious 80s slime death explosions i've ever seen.

Ip Man 1 & 2... excellent action / kung fu movies, documenting the life of chinas ultimate kung fu practitioner. some of the fighting is pretty ridiculous, i doubt that someone actually fought that many people at once, but who knows. pretty cool stuff... to tie into our own times, this "Ip Man" character was the person who trained bruce lee.

Hellboy 1 & 2. Lighthearted and fun pseudo-superhero movie with great directing and amazing art direction.

It is, that is a fantastic movie.
Re: Movie reccomendation
Pan's Labyrinth does have the same director as Hellboy I and II. Hellboy was a a good movie, but I liked Pan's Labyrinth more.Machete234 wrote:I think pan's labyrinth is by the same director.
Duillermo del Toro seems like he does do a good job with the cinematography.

Re: Movie reccomendation
yeah; just from glancing at the list, ive seen a bunch of those...
"the devils backbone" was sort of an interesting tale about kids in an orphanage in spain... sort of a ghost story / murder mystery thing
"rudo y cursi" is a great story about two brothers growing up wanting to be professional footballers, and how the game subsequently ruins their lives and drives them apart; very funny and endearing... don't need to be a fan of the game to enjoy this movie
and coool... says he's involved in making the movie of "the hobbit" (was always my favourite LOTR book) as well as a version of "slaugtherhouse five"... and a movie version of a dan simmons book i haven't read... lots of good things to come from gdt it seems

Re: Movie reccomendation
Slaughterhouse 5 really could use a re-make. I mean, the original was _good_ but it's pretty dated. The acting and directing of the original film were nothing remarkable, it was good solely because of Vonnegut's writing. A remake that was just as faithful as the original, but with better cast and crew, could be very nice. Although if they aren't faithful to it, the movie will suck.KaiserJ wrote:yeah; just from glancing at the list, ive seen a bunch of those...

The Hobbit movie is so deep in Development Hell that there's no guarantee that _any_ of the big names attached to it will ever get to work on it. The studio is having a nightmare with their finances, so they can't even get this license-to-print-money together. Sir Ian McKellan has publicly said he won't wait forever and will make other commitments if they don't get their crap together damned fast.
Re: Movie reccomendation
I haven't seen the movies that you mentioned, but it does look like there are a lot of good movies on this list. I'll have to watch the movies that you listed.KaiserJ wrote:yeah; just from glancing at the list, ive seen a bunch of those...

Re: Movie reccomendation
Oh, and everyone has to see "Battle Royale"... it's going to be hard to find for some because it's never been released "officially" in North America... but apparently it's available on NetFlix.
