my last post on the subject

Just specced a game on comet catcher, it was a fairly even affair both teams met in the middle and were fighting it out.
About 7 or 8 minutes in, on the left flank a player (starting from the bottom of the map) had defended his line with 2llt an hlt and a small plasma battery, the other player who sensed he was being bettered walked his comm right in there and took out the defenders comm, his entire defence line including some units and his own comm.
If he had scouted before comm bombing he would have found an undefended route to get behind the enemy just off to the right.
Instead, what was turning out to be an awesome game was over in the blink of an eye as with no def and no comm the player who was comm bombed was pretty much defenceless and was quickly overrun.

My point, that early in the game you cant prevent (even with 2llt hlt and palsma battery) or recover from a comm bomb, what was gonna be a cool game was ruined in about 5 seconds.
Its comm death = end for me all the way...

Yea, but good things can come of it to. I remebear a game on Lava higround, where me and min3mat seized the middle qwickly (well, mostly min3mat =D) , we drive of one of the guy, when we suddenly spot his ally build a HLT with a con k-bot and his com. min3mat rushes his com to the position, and qwickly kills the HLT. Anyway, the guy refuses to sacrefice his com, so he continues to walk right into his base pleeding how "it will ruin the game, please don't" offcourse, everything blows up, and about 30 mins of taking out his ally later, we launch a new game, same teams, on CC. (after that guy complained how Com bombing ruins gameplay and i said that he could have taken out most of my stuff to if he had started moving the commander toward Min3mats commander.)

Anyway, the guy who got com rushed builds a transport and bombs min3mat, i give him a con and we survive for about 40 minutes (Witch is pretty nice being a 2 agisn't one) And then we die from a very large level 1 swarm.

Back in the lobby, he explains that it was an exampel of how coms rushing/bombing ruins game. I proclaming that the game was fun, the best i had in weeks, min3mat proclaming something plus lotsa insults, and his ally just sits there and agrees.

Well, what good of that you may ask?

We had 2 great games.
We both lost and won.
Both games kept a normal standard of raiding, defence, level 1 and level 2 units
Both where, IMO, fun to play.

Meh, it's not that bad really to lose a game. If your going high in your pants because you won, your just bragging, and noone cares.

Yes, use your comm offencively and you get comm bombed. If the player with the exorbitant defence hadn't kept his comm on the front lines he would have saved his comm and probably the game. I almost always comm bomb someone who builds a forward base and then keeps his comm in it, easy way to keep abusive use off the comm to a minimum. There are 3 direct counters to offencive comming, commbombs gunships and krogoths. I'll tell you right now, if you plan on keeping your comm on your front lines or around the same area for long periods of time, expect to see the enemy comm come walking in at some point.

Back your comm off once you finish a forward base, at least that way if someone comm bombs you you have trump on them. A comm is extreamly deadly against a team with no comm, you now have free offencive comm reign of the map.

I remeber when someone tried to comm bomb my forward outpost. I still had my comm and a few const. bots in it. His comm comes marching over the hill. Not wanting to lose my base, I tell all my weapons to hold fire. Then I march my comm and const. bots over and reclaim him. We were laughing about that till the game finished.

I know that, some time after the "Dead Comm, game ends" option was introduced, i tried to play like that as a Standard. Didn't worked... Everyone kept complaining.

That option needs to be the default one on the Lobby and not the oposite.

That option is the best game ender. Often, games get to be over, in practice, but we just hang on in that painfull and boring march of death until that last solar panel get's destroyed... It also brings more purpose into the game, it becomes more about trying to reach the objective (kill the other's comm and don't let your own die).

Lately all the games I've been hosting have been comm ends. It works well even in team games and actually gives the losing team a chance to really turn the game around.

People only complain when they blow up in game after their comm gets killed by brawlies when they had no idea that the commdeath = game lost rule was even on.

Hopefully at some point mod makers get the ability to lock those types of variables. Most mods would not benifit from the comm death = loose, and some would be much better off with it on by default.

Just in reply to swift... the guys comm was on his frontline... hed just finished building and was beggining to retreat as he was bombed.
He couldnt have established his line without the comm obviously, the comm had to be there and he was moving off as he was bombed.

As I said, there was an undefended route leading to the back of his base
which could easily have been exploited with a little scouting and the game would have turned into a great one.

The player who comm bombed was NOT at a disadvantage he controlled slightly more terrain and actually had 3 more metal patches, than the player who was subsequently bombed.

I just played an awesome game with peace on painted desert, there was plenty opps for comm bombs as the teams met in the centre, no one took them, they attacked round the flanks... it turned into the closest and most enjoyable spring game ive ever played.
If their had been comm bombs then... you know what would have happened. yep your right.. game over in 10 minutes.
Comm death=end was off btw.

Comm bombs just lead to lame games there's no denying it... i'm sorry you just cant...

Anyway gg peace and team Sweden! whens the rematch?

Apart from kixxes experience on lava highground... but that map is a bit err... crappy, the old map idea whoever controls the middle will inevitably lead to comm bombs and its a crap idea. Anyway, whinge 2 finished.
:)
Its been a long time sice ive played a game on a map like that.

If I ctrl-d my comm and then give it to another player in the time it's counting down with comdeath=splode on, do I lose or does the other player lose?

IMO you shouldn't be able to give enemy players your units with cheats off.

I don't think role playing should be non .cheat supported, at least not for mods that don't specifically make that an option.

I've just decided that I don't really have a problem with comm bombing, but i do against comm rushing.
That is, using your comm to push forward in the early stages of a game to dig in and gain an advantage. I never do this because I'm just not willing to risk my comm that early on. Even if you manage to destroy the enemy defences the comm comes forward and dguns whatever forces you have.
