Re: The case of xzalion.
I didn't read everything on this topic but I highly agree with Argh's first post.
Less trolling, less blabla, more action, more serious stuff, more actives moderators and more moderation (locking topics, deleting topics, removing posts, warnings..)

Re: The case of xzalion.
I highly encourage Argh to record more of his TL;DR posts! There is no way i would read that with my eyes but his soothing American voice is like a lover whispering in my ears.
I think the spring community is really nice and helpful, actually. We waste a lot of time teaching people who never make any kind of mod. A lot of projects dont have such a community.
Honestly, anyone who makes 6 threads in 6 hours or so like that is flat up trollin'. A moderator might not even have been online at the tme.
P.S Making something horrible happen if you dont get your way is great for the community.

Re: The case of xzalion.
Boo Hoo.
Either he knuckles down and does hard labor to create his game - or not. xzalion has not done the hard work. He does not appear to be trying. He wants the world to center around himself, he has contributed nothing of importance, asked no questions of relevance, done a hissy-fit and will not be missed.
When I came here I helped out with the engine, asked relevant questions, and limited self-promotion to occasions where feedback was necessary. When my project has something worth showing I'll sing my praises then.
See the difference?
Do we have to be nice to annoying people? That sounds rather boring and churchey to me. Do you want to baby-sit and placate somebody who hasn't done 1% of what's needed but floods the board with talk of his achievements? Who spends more time talking than working?
Do you want things to be all business round here or would you rather have fun? Do you want to call a spade a shovel because you'll be punished if you don't? Do you want to trade bluntness for essays that try to talk around the point without really saying it?
This is not a church. It is not a school, a business, an agency, a charity or anything else that owes the world its existence. If you can't have fun here then where? If xzalion can't handle the truth - the simple truth that he should act first and talk later; if rudeness doesn't get through, and politeness obviously failed, then it's time to leave. If he thinks other communities will treat him any better he's in for a shock.
More moderation is not the answer to this problem. This community, for the most part, IS nice - but it is selective about who it is nice to. That's how it should be.
If you can't handle criticism, get the fuck off the Internets.

Re: The case of xzalion.
I approve of this new moderation
Re: The case of xzalion.
jaz you be nice-moderators noob.
Re: The case of xzalion.
+1 to SpliFF. Major members of our community arrived and just got on with things, and if they didnt produce content immediatly, they laid out plans and discussed it, rather than announcing their game/project that doesnt even exist and saying how great it is when it hasn't even been started.
TLDR posts are worthless regardless of their content precisely because of their length. Saying it out loud in an mp3 doesn't change that. There is a wealth of articles and experts saying in web design that you should take what your normally write, half its length for the web, then half it again.
If you cant make your point on a business card, you've failed already, no amount of extra wording and clarification will fix it

Re: The case of xzalion.
Seems civil protection came through here, the forumwallz are smeared with the redblood of failed rioters.
Re: The case of xzalion.
I thought the yearly topic rotation 'moderation sucks' was scheduled for autumn...
Well, this time AFs crusade for transparent moderation combined with desire for very strict moderation. Wasn't last years topic that moderators are too strict and not transparent? Go figure...
And don't pretend the desire to see moderated posts' original content is anything but curiosity and lulz.
As for xzalion, I think everyone sensible knows to steer clear until he makes reasonable questions and let moderation handle the topic spam if necessary.

Re: The case of xzalion.
Which is why new moderators are discussed by the moderation team and why moderation decisions can be escalated for discussion to the moderating administrators.Jazcash wrote:A big issue is that trolling is a form of opinion, that's why spotting a good troll is such a skill. If a moderator lacks that skill and accuses somebody of trolling when they're really not, then fail occurs and many sad pandas do emerge.
Re: The case of xzalion.
Transparency is merely common sense. It means we know wether to trust the moderators or if theyre corrupt, we know what has happened and who is being disruptive in our community, we know what is considered acceptable and what is not, and we have a clear means of analysing what works and does not with an air to suggest improvements, without being clouded by opaque practises which make conclusions biased by a lack of information.

Gah...This is entertaining...I guess the moderators find his thread entertaining as well since that would be the only reason not to close it.
This ganging up on Xal is ridiculous.

Re: The case of xzalion.
Would be easier to expose the wrongness of the moderators by stating your previous identity, so all could see how foul the mods were for banning such a friendly and helpful contributing member that I no doubt you are.
Also, technically you're now guilty of ban evasion. BAM! GET BANNED AGAIN!
Also, technically I'm now guilty of backseat moderation. BAM! I'LL GET BANNED TOO!
