cartoons you grew up on?
I just remembered about this Batman cartoon series:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103359/
It had pretty intense and disturbing scenes for a kids cartoon.

Re: cartoons you grew up on?
Well there were tons of good cartoons back then. My favorite probably was M.A.S.K. :

Saber Rider also was great:

I yet have to see the original japanese version as I read the series was sort of revamped as e.g. dead enemy soldiers actually died in the japanese version in contrast to being warped into the "phantom zone" for the european / american version...
Oh I also loved Captain N:

To this day I still cannot figure out what went through their minds when making Megaman this green little thing though...

The Botsmaster was the coolest cartoon ever, of all time, and suprisingly non-condecending

watch that, first part of the first episode. if you watch the first 5 minutes you'll get hooked

Re: cartoons you grew up on?
TBH most anime is junk just like most western cartoons.
Both have some good cartoons but the majority in both is fail.

Re: cartoons you grew up on?
Well I guess the tons of toys for cartoons like M.A.S.K. were the major thing about adding the final bit of excitement. At least here you just had toys for Transformers, MASK, Ghostbusters or He-Man. I cannot recall anything close to that for an japanese anime - at least not in Germany...Satirik wrote:it seems you didn't grew up jap anim, even though i watched mask and batman, my favorite ones were jap anim
That of course changed with Pokemon, Yugi-Oh and stuff...
There also was another great cartoon series with different spin-offs which sort of was about edutainment and did a fantastic job at this. It was a french production and I don't know the english title and how far it actually was translated (although wikiepedia says it was broadcasted in many countries) - it probably would be translated into "Once upon a time" adding the respective title like life, history or america. The best one most certainly was the one about the human body and biology in general.

dunno the jap/english name
Re: cartoons you grew up on?
Beside Banana-man, Batman, He-Man :D and similar xyz-man derivates, I used to watch things like:
Pat and Mat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZvIQX0C ... re=related
Bojan (Slovenian cartoon): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXFzo_az ... re=related
Fireman Sam (very good Slovenian sync): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S0hCBnPA7I
I must say that I remember these far more than anything else. I think these were proper children's cartoons w/o violence and such.
Later came Dragon Ball, which I stopped watching couse it was dragging way too much. It did get me interested into Japanese anime tho.
