Re: intel reverse hyperthreading!!!!!!
Getting a 2.6 speedup on a (potentially) 48 core machine isn't epic. Moreover, single-thread performance is improved by 41% on average when the proposed scheme is used on a so-called ÔÇ£tiny-coreÔÇØ (Intel did not reveal, what tiny-core actually is, but it may potentially be a part of the companyÔÇÖs SSC 48-core processor), and up to 2.6 times for some selected applications.
Re: intel reverse hyperthreading!!!!!!
you probably wouldn't mind your computer being 2.6x faster.
also, the theory about 48 cores is parenthetical. they might be talking about 2-8 cores.

I wouldn't mind 48 cores

Why stop there? 96 is just around the corner!Tobi wrote:I wouldn't mind 48 cores
Re: intel reverse hyperthreading!!!!!!
octo-cores and quad-proc mobos give you 64 (with another 64 virtual from hyperthreading)
Re: intel reverse hyperthreading!!!!!!
i would guess it would make sense to use Atom CPUs for such purposes, no?
i mean...
if you take a "normal" Intel CPU and put 48 of them ion one case ...

You just described Intel's cancelled Larrabee platform. 48 atom cores on a PCI-e card.hoijui wrote:i would guess it would make sense to use Atom CPUs for such purposes, no?

Re: intel reverse hyperthreading!!!!!!
Major issue with current tech is the processor interconnect. I bet that 48 core thing is epicly slow for anything except maybe scientific calculations that require no shared data.
Re: intel reverse hyperthreading!!!!!!
yea if-then-else pwns them, and ye that's why SETI always takes 100% of everything
