atmospheric maps (suggestions)

i was just surfing around and i found these 2 screenshots from some games (not gonna mention the names) and i believe something as atmospheric is do able in spring...

and it would be very cool if u couldnt build on the sand... i think we need some new tag...

The first one looks godo because unlike a lto fo spring maps, ti uses colours correctly. It has a godo detailed sky that has a lot of depth, and the whole scene is in the same colour scheme.

It's extensive use of lighting effects ro simulated lightign effects also makes it atmospheric. Lighting is very important.

You could do a "swamp map" which had a similar feel to the Dune maps. Instead of having desert where you couldn't build, you could have a few land outcroppings, followed by lots of shallow water, where units can travel, but not build.

Of course, anyone doing a swamp map would need to knock up a bunch of suitably gnarled trees, etc...

You can make that using the typemap that defines which terrain type is where and, in the .smd, where you can define the properties of each specific terrain.

all i want to do is make Spring look prettier... i like everything pretty :wink:

spring is still such an ugly duck... its pretty from inside but the layer on front of all the prettynes is UGLY

I actually LIKED Empor, seeing as how the Atreide's rock.

But we all knew that already!

PS: The movies that go on between the missions are way better in the original dune games, though. I loved the Harkonnen mentat from Dune 2000.
