My first map - That Bridge
I made my first map, and did my best.
I couldn't use Photoshop because it's just too laggy to use the brush as the map resolution is big, so I used MSPaint and did filtering in Photoshop.
I hope you like it. Also, give me any tips to improve my map, maybe I'll make a V2.
Thanks.

You want to have tips eh?
Okay, for the beginning good points: You managed to post some screens, good. Without them would not have been able to give you any.
Second buy some more RAM to your computer. Otherwise don't bother making maps...
Third get or buy a modelling/landscaping 3d art program like SME (Spring map edit), L3DT (massive spring support), Bryce (free), Carrara, Wiced, Terragen, World Machine... theres a lot... Matter of taste what you want to use... You wont be able to make convincing maps only with photoshop - It's image editing program...

Thanks. I got Spring Map Edit and it's awesome so far :)
As for the RAM, I'm going to get a new laptop soon, a good one.

Re: My first map - That Bridge
I made a simple map just to test Spring Map Editor, and it came out nice, so I put it on Spring Files. It's a metal map :). Pics included in Spring Files.

Good first map.
Get those programs Sir Suggested and your map quality will improve immediately.
I also suggest first drawing a simple sketch of your map on a piece of paper.
Its harder to draw accurately in image editing software so you sometimes don't do things exactly as you want and instead compromise for something less.
If you draw on a piece of paper, just a small sketch, you will draw it exactly like you want it to look without limitations than you will be forced to learn how to implement what you have drawn in a program.

Aw you beat me to it, I'm working an MS paint texture for my map. Also the metal map looks nifty.

Why the face of shock?
Re: My first map - That Bridge
Please dont use paint for texturing. There are many free alternatives out there too.

I'm also shocked that you are making textures with MS paint. I'd understand if someone made them with PS though still a bit suspicious whether it would look good...
Re: My first map - That Bridge
I can paint the mona lisa using an atomic force microscope to move the individual atoms into place, it may take millions of years to do but it is possible.
There's the tool that 'could' do it, and there's the right tool. MS Paint is not the right tool by a huge margin if you want it to look half decent before your 60th birthday.
I suggest obtaining GIMP, paint .Net or photoshop, you will observe an immense improvement in quality and time spent, I would then look at the other mappers in these forums, and the tools they use.
