springsettings.exe - where does it store settings?

Post by knorke »

so where are springsettings stored? for some reason i do not have a springsettings.cfg in my spring folder :?:
so i did a search for "*springsetting*" and all it found is this: Image
(multiple installs of spring for lols, spring81\ is the newest one i use for playing online)
so for testing i set resolution to 666x666, saved, then looked in all the config files windows had found but there it still says Xresolution=1024
Then I searched registry for *spring* and it found some entries, but only stuff related to filetypes etc, not the resolutionsettings for example.

So where is bucket err settings?

magic!
so it is E:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\TP\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\springsettings.cfg

and there are also those folders:
E:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\TP\Eigene Dateien\Spring

E:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\TP\Eigene Dateien\My Games\Spring

both are empty. where do they come from?
("eigene dateien" = "my documents" folder)

they are both data-dirs. it makes sense to have your mods & maps folders in one of them. i would recommend the My Games one, as archive mover is using that one too.
reason:
* separating content from engine/binary stuff/forgot the best name for that
* having your mods/maps available to all your spring installations without copying

yea, i have maps/mods/screenshots etc already in a "springcontent" folder for that reason. ive set that folder in springlobby and it works.

problems with the "my games", "my documents" etc. folder for me is, it gets quite choatic and doesnt really work. (not work=programs create their own choatic foldersstructure to save their settings like "my games\gameA", "knorkes games\gameB", "applicatonsettings\roflapp", "appdata\omgapp")

also ive never set that folder anywhere so its a bit confusing stuff gets saved there.
ie spring didnt use any of the folders (maybe because of german names created by other programs) but instead made a "my games" folder with only spring in it.

can it be set to use a .cfg next to the .exe while so that multiple installs can each have their own settings?

Yes.

If there is a springsettings.cfg next to your exe, it becomes the one that gets used.
