Required Gaming for Humanity: 1st Edition
Well, you get the idea. This thread contains many great suggestions to provide people with hours of PC gaming.
The longer your list (although quality over quantity is always better) the more helpful and interesting this thread will be to everyone.
Please keep flaming and debating of games ("hurr durr your game suggestions are liek teh suxxors") to a minimum (zero).
I'll start with my top 5:
1. Massive Assault (Turn-based Realtime tactics)
2. Starcraft/Warcraft (there are endless custom maps for variation!)
3. Cortex Command (no netplay but still a fun game)
4. The Orange Box (obvious)
5. Warzone 2100 (free-to-play RTS)

Re: Required Gaming for Humanity: 1st Edition
I didn't quite get the point of the topic. But I think that these games are required for everyone to play before judging or claiming for anything else:
1. Battlezones (all of them)
2. Natural selection (hl mod)
3. Tribes (1 is one and only)
4. Thiefs (all of them)
5. Jagged Alliance II

my top 5 in order (yes, they are all antique)
- x-com UFO defense
- counterstrike (1.6)
- morrowind
- star control 2
- syndicate
(and now that i see i'm not limited to 5)
- deus ex (just finished this last week for the nth time, still so good, i -hope #3 is as awesome as #1 and nothing like #2)
- betrayal at krondor
- populous 2
- grand theft auto original (gourangaaaa)
lots of good games in these lists though
edit #2 and natural selection was good too; but IMO the most awesome HL mod was "the specialists" :D
