Missing plugin for 3DSMAX Export to S3O

Post by Tribulex »

I am a developer of ANTS, a game implemented on the Spring engine. Right now, I am trying to make the workflow of my group more efficient as far as modeling and texturing goes, and we all use 3DSMAX. I found a link to a s3o plugin (http://taspring.clan-sy.com/temp/s3oexport.dle) in another thread, but that no longer works. I would appreciate if someone could post a link here, as I think this would be useful.

Thank you.

I have read this forum, and it is clear to me that releasing unfinished projects to the spring community is extremely detrimental to that project. Thank you very much for your response.

Buy a mouse with a scroll wheel so you may scroll up and read the response Hoi gave, if you please.

The only thing you need to do on this forum is ignore the trolls, releasing alpha/beta versions is a good things so people can test for bugs, or a picture just to see how it looks :P

Anyway good luck with your mod and I hope the exporter still works.

I am sorry I hope I am not insulting your community. I definitely respect many of your members and developers, but I would rather not expose my mod to the various trolls and griefers that unfortunately this nice game has attracted. If you are interested in beta testing or even just getting involved in our fascinating discussions about gameplay, feel free to send me a PM or email. Right now, the game is very early in its development, but our development is going very rapidly due to our very committed and enthusiastic members.

Again, thank you for your help.

I typed the response before he posted. Everybody makes mistakes, but trust me, I read everything written on this forum in due time, it is my responsibility.

On a side note, if it is a game, just call it a game, don't bother subjecting your project to the pejorative "mod" designation. It negatively impacts advertising.

Forgive me, but sometimes it is easier to refer to it as a mod, since everything else in spring refers to it that way. I like to think of mod as short for Module, like a content module that is loaded by the engine. Game, to me, is dealing with the interaction of the lobby, engine, mod, and map together. But that is just my take.

Forgive me my stoic unemotional mask, as stifling as it is frustrating. I do in fact have a sense of humour, I usually suspend it for the sake of the forums... they are so much harder to moderate fairly when one is giggling.

As for the understanding of mod as module, that is my own, but it is clearly not that of the majority. To me, I play a game built from a module, a map and the engine, as well as personal settings. To many people outside of Spring they load a "modification" on a "game" (Spring) to play a game. Unfortunately, how a project appears to uninitiated others is more important for the propagation of a project than how it is seen by the developers and insiders.

Honestly, spring players currently deal with modules, since they are using the same game lobby and just loading different content schemes. The full game needs more to it, such as key binds and packaging into something that feels complete and solid, by using linking programs and customized lobbies etc. Our goal in this project is to perfect a module and some maps, and then work on making something complete in that sense.

Well, that is what 1944 is angling for, but we have a fair distance to go - further advancements with our loader and lobby, for instance, not to mention the pending GUI. Star Wars: Imperial Winter appears to have a similar long term goal. Kernel Panic has many of the necessary elements but still uses a common lobby with few modifications. For most of the other projects, I definitely agree with you.

When I load up max, I get an error about this plugin saying "%1 is not a valid win32 application." Could this be because I am running the 64 bit version of max?

Maybe. I guess you could try it with the 32 bit version if you have it installed.

Sorry to bump this, but the plugin fails to load for me, with Max 2010. I don't suppose there was ever an update to this?
