Re: Spring is ugly?
actually yeah... I was 17 when I started and that was ok but now I'm 21...
Re: Spring is ugly?
dunno if you knew but spring is not just a forum. the forum is probably full of old farts but the actual game is probably mostly young ppl
Re: Spring is ugly?
tbh (edit : ALMOST) everyone who i've been in contact with in the lobby has revealed their age is at least 21, and for the most part, they are over 25.
but that's just in my own experience, you may well be right

Re: Spring is ugly?
In my mind I always pictured spring players to be mostly 16 year old girls. Don't ruin this for me

Re: Spring is ugly?
I find 19/F/Finland the most common response.
Re: Spring is ugly?
A word on-topic.
Spring was designed to be a TA-like RTS engine. Any other attempts to make it non-TA are greatly handicapped and require a lot of effort to distance themselves from the TA-like features.
2 resource limits, renderer mostly optimised for the crappy TA models (there is little work done towards implementing and refining modern features that most RTSs have) And all other aspects will obviously force most of the spring mods look ugly.
Even pure, SW, or gundam, looking miles better in comparacent with BA, are still on the lowest side of any modern RTS, and even a few old RTSs that I have seen.
If spring was really ever to become a powerful engine for not just only *A mods, it has to be re-written with generality in mind, and not having to force mod developers to use dirty hacks to change the engine behaviours.
Miranda, a multi-protocol chat client, was initially written for ICQ, had hundreds of modules (read - lua scripting) and was a complete MESS to work with. It took them several years to kill all ICQ "features" and make the general client engine generic for all protocols, while leaving specialisation to the modules. I see a similar thing happening with spring.

Re: Spring is ugly?
Maybe all the TA players/devs will jump ship to TA3D and leave us to our own devises.

What makes this game really look very old is the standard UI this is why I use IceUI.Hobo Joe wrote:But show people this and tell me what their reaction is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mKhQD2SVqw
I've shown it to like 20 people and they all say the same things: old, ugly, bad, etc.
(Standard UI looks really like from the 90's)
I dont need a really good looking gfx engine I prefer it when it runs smoothly when I have a lot of units on the field.
That is something that supcom just CANT, the game runs slow on processors that were good at the time the game was released.

A word on topic? Yes.
Re: Spring is ugly?
Yeah right, the majority of Spring players are preteen girls.
I think the average player is significantly older than for many other games. When you no longer have the reflexes to pwn in counter-strike you turn to Spring.

Re: Spring is ugly?
try zooming in on any of the models in BA and you'll see the answer to this thread
Re: Spring is ugly?
I agree. BA models up close = Spring.Sausage wrote:try zooming in on any of the models in BA and you'll see the answer to this thread
