How to do Housecolour?
I know that its the Alpha layer and blablabla but all possibilities of working with that so far are: Erasing it via Gimp using "del" so not everything is Housecolor.
I would like to 'draw' the Alpha levels, how to do that in Gimp?

Channels tab?

If you only see 3 channels, go back to the Layers tab and add a new layer with transparency (the alpha is only a component of a layer that supports transparency and sometimes a new image with a single layer does not).
once you get it you can draw to it exclusively by "hiding" (click the eye) the RGB channels

Re: How to do Housecolour?

Thats what i can see.
Squared means not housecolour.
1.Why can i only draw in black? Is that right iirc it said sth about white in the textures tutorial.
2.How can i make the stuff beneath visible? Its pretty hard to guess what is where...
Re: How to do Housecolour?
1.
On the alpha channel only supports "Value", this is visually represented by White (0% alpha so, show everything) to Black (100% Alpha, show nothing)... spring interprets this as 0% = Show No TeamColor to 100%= All Teamcolor... when you are choosing your color use the "V" slider to choose the % of alpha to draw with...
2. if you want to see the other stuff then just use transparency to edit (just want to point out that this is the opposite of what you asked in your first post)... if the resulting image has 50% transparency then it will be 50% teamcolor... an easy way I've found to deal with transparency is to make the image I want, then duplicate it as a new layer, then erase the parts I want to be semi-transparent from the top copy layer and then adjust the opacity of the original so "transparency" shows through...
You know what... this is probably the WRONG place to be trying to get help with fundamental "Using the GIMP" questions... the questions you are asking are not Spring specific, the only thing you need to know is:
In the resulting image the "alpha channel", which is what defines which parts of the image will be transparent and how much, is what defines how much team color "shows through"... basically imaging that your model is 100% team color with your texture placed over top of it... whatever parts of your texture are transparent will let that base-color through.
So with that, feel free to keep asking questions here but I'd really recommend if you are struggling with dealing with transparency in the GIMP that you find some tutorials or something.
edit: For those confused TeamColor = HouseColour (though I've never heard anyone refer to it as HouseColour before... it makes perfect sense)

Re: How to do Housecolour?
its called Houscolour in CnC games :p
So far i can make stuff visible in Editor aka Teamcolour in Spring.
But how to do the opposite? Gimp is confusing sometimes X_X
Edit:Rubber...
yay got it working!

Ahh, a nice reminder that Westwood has been slapping a new engine on Dune 2 every year or so for almost two decades. They still call the factions "houses" under the hood.
