Game crashes while loading
While trying to load balanced total annihilation 6.85, My game crashes in the middle of loading ( I don't even get to see the in-game screen). Because of some "xyz definition" or something like that. Help is appreciated.
Re: Game crashes while loading
please post your infolog.txt that is generated in your spring rot folder after such a game.
use http://www.pastebin.com to post it and include the link in your post.

"Error at position 526 near "xyz, vertex.normal.z,program." when loading vertex program file treeNS.vp
Re: Game crashes while loading
Same problem here, same error message, however it is for Evolution RTS. Windows XP.
the error message is the same:
Error at position 526 near "xyz, vertex.normal.z, program." when loading vertex program file treeNS.vp: invalid color result
infolog.txt as requested at link:

maybe there is something else I don't understand, because in the lobby I select the mod (evolution rts), press start, I get a message saying I have to select a map. why? are the maps not part of the mod? the only available map is winter, then I press start and the error occurs.
Re: Game crashes while loading
hi setreset. i dont know much about the workings of the engine, but it's always a good idea to make sure you have all of your video card drivers updated when running spring.
evo is still in alpha, once we get a more complete version of the mod together, more maps will come with the package.
other maps and mods can be found here; might be worth a try with a different map or mod to see if the problem is with the engine itself, or with the mod or map exclusively. (maps go in the spring/maps/ directory, mods go in the spring/mods/ directory)

Re: Game crashes while loading
It's crashing on spring default trees? Now that IS weird, but imo it points to outdated graphics drivers.
Basically, you're getting an engine related crash, not a game related crash.
Also, regarding maps, only one is included with that installer, because maps are typically 20 - 50 mb apiece, so in the interest of keeping the filesize of the installer down, there is only one map included. Also, maps aren't exclusive to a particular game (as a general rule), so we have springfiles.com which is a massive archive for maps and other related things.

Thank you for the answer, I will try to update driver.
Maybe some other graphics issue? Which directX do I need?
I have a shared graphics card on my motherboard.

Re: Game crashes while loading
Spring uses OpenGL, not DirectX (it does not matter what DirectX version you have instaled, or if you have it installed at all). OpenGL is nothing you have to install, it is just something that the driver can support, and a software (eg spring) can use.
from the infolog:
I am not one of the graphics experts, but ...
Could well be this card just is not gonna make it.
from the infolog:
Code: Select all
[ 0] SDL: 1.2.10
[ 0] GL: 1.5.0
[ 0] GL: SiS
[ 0] GL: Mirage Graphics3
[ 0] GLEW: 1.4.0

Re: Game crashes while loading
Updating to driver from April 2008 didn't work.
my graphics card is SIS M672. Since the game has relatively low requirements I thought it should work... darn.

Re: Game crashes while loading
Maybe we should add some huge warning message that covers half the screen, and is shown during the loading screens, saying something like:
!!! WARNING !!!
Your graphic card is .. well.. you know...
shit
if the game crashes, or looks ugly, buy a better card!
And that would turn up for all SiS and Intel cards on non-debug builds.
Maybe we could add a few exception for the newer Intel cards.

Hope these exceptions are X3100 & X4500.hoijui wrote:Maybe we could add a few exception for the newer Intel cards.

Can we simplify it by posting this?:hoijui wrote:Maybe we should add some huge warning message that covers half the screen, and is shown during the loading screens, saying something like:

WTF ARE YOU TRYING TO PLAY A 3D GAME ON AN INTEGRATED GRAPHICS CHIP, N00B!?!? GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND SPEND A FEW CHITLINS AT THE COMPUTER STORE!
Not as nice, but it does certainly get the point across...
Edit: Btw, I was kidding...
