You could make it way, way less derivative just by doing something with those big square 'shoulder' pads so characteristic of the dreadnaught. Round off the tops a little, even a single extra edge along the top, to give them a peak, or something. Its a really good model, and if you arent trying to make a WH40k mod, there is no reason to copy it so close (GW have been very fussy in the past about their IP- though then again, starcraft).

Anyway, i am uvmapping Cremuss's ship, and i've been trying to shorten it too, because spring doesnt deal very well with really long units.

It probably damages it to much stylistically though. Any suggestions, coments or ideas?

Bonus: A sub made in the same style (just a mockup atm):

Well I don't want to be tied to Warhammer universe the way that I would have to model every model by some certain unit in 40k. But I bet that other factions won't look that Warhammerish. I promise to stay away from trouble :)

I did render of orc "warrior" too... I'ts 1920x1080 so you can take closer look at the textures :) Image
Your submarine is very nice! i'm so happy that spring finally got some really talented and experienced artists doing stuff. That actually made me active again :) And the fact that I don't have a job and I have tons of free time.

Actually, that model is Cremuss' - and it isn't like we haven't had Smoth or his ilk for years.

But he is obsessed with his anime robots. Waste of great talent, that's what I always say when I see anime stuff :P Oh I thought that submarine was done by Saktoth.

Its an edit of Cremuss's model, if you look at it and the ship above, you can see the similarities.

Any feedback on shortening the ship model though?

I think that it looks more like boat than ship when shorter... but it might look more like ship if you made cockpit little bit longer.

Boat ship, whichever. Just want it to look good.

I've decided to go for the length and just suffer the consequences re spring footprints etc.

There is so much variance in anime, to call something an expression of anime is absurd.

@bob: I'd really like to see some units walking out of that thing...
1 tip: put the doors slightly back into the ship, so the ship gets a bit more relief (otherwise it is just a straight area) :-)
It will also make the doors more clear, and not being recognised as some strange part of the ship.

Sak, I think Cremuss' ship looks a bit daggy if you shorten it, you need to adjust it's proportions elsewhere as well if you're going to do that.

How? Make it less tall? Make it thinner? See then it just reverts to the same problem as before, its out of proption.

Anyway i've gone for the longer version, which can be found here.
