So, obviously this is very nearly the worst place to post this, but I am a lot more comfortable posting here then on one of the Torchlight specific sites for fear of them thinking me an useless noob who is begging people to do work for him... here you all know that this is what I am so exposing myself as such is trivial... Also, I know a bunch of you had expressed interest in Torchlight.
So here's the basic Idea:
Generate a dungeon from an item that when you have completed the dungeon will end with you having a better item... kinda like the "Item Worlds" in the Disgaea series of video games.
In More Specific Detail:
Players will acquire a scroll or encounter an NPC that will consume a compatible item and generate a dungeon based on that item, the "boss" of the generated dungeon will drop an enhanced version of the consumed item.
The "difficulty" of the dungeon would be based on a "calculated" level of the item. I'm currently thinking something along the lines of:
Base "Level" of the item B(I'm not sure if there is such a thing)
Number of Slots on the item S
Combined Level of Slotted Gems G (cracked=1, dull=2, etc)
Number of Enchantments on the item E
so B+S+E+C+1 = Difficulty of the Dungeon
I was thinking that the resulting items being dropped would be:
Same Item But:
+ 1 to the Base Level
+ 1 Enchantment
-1 to All Stat and Level requirements
+1 Slots (if applicable, if not then boss will drop an additional gem)
No Slotted Gems
The Gems that were slotted into the item.
So, you would end up with a enhanced version of the item and with the gems extracted (preserving both item and gems)
In addition to the basic "level", the "boss" creature guarding these items would have all of the bonuses that the item would have bestowed.
I was also thinking that each item type (weapon, helmet, armor, ring, circlet etc. etc.) would use a different dungeon tile "theme"... or this could be determined by the item's initial enchantments.
I'm not entirely sure this particular mod it possible but it looks like a pretty good chance as I've been investigating... though right now I'm still in the process of playing through the game the first time so haven't done much in the way of investigating existing mods.
