the same thing happened in Wall-e and i was annoyed by it as well.
Enough with the preaching IMO.
Cant we just enjoy a film peacefully?
What's wrong with the message it sends?

How should human society be pictured in such a situation according to you?

Most likely in reality they would just nuke the natives.

You know after thinking about it a bit now I think i'd even enjoy the film more if there was no human invasion and interracial war.
the film could have easily be about Humans coming to this new planet and trying to explore and understand it,and the natives.

The Necessary conflict and its resolution could have easily been placed within that frame.

In absence of evil it's hard to portray good.

In what reality?
In several hundred centuries into the future?
If anything You'd think human society would be much more humane than it is now.
I don't think there was anything wrong with the message I just think it was too blatant,in your face, and just silly since this felt a lot like a movie for kids.
Also the ultimate evil, the company versus the ultimate good, the Naabi were kinda contrasted by the main character's grey morals.
The main guy was selfish and even kinda negative at times until he sexed the blue smurf.
and it kinda felt that he was very interested in the smurf world mainly because he was able to use his legs as a Naabi.
there are several places where they show that he is very amazed at his new physical abilities especially the use of his legs.

don't get me wrong though these are actually minor issues i enjoyed the film a lot and it felt very short cause it was so fun.

Unless some disaster happens I really don't see that happening.

Straight to the point is good. I like that better than subliminal messaging.

Dunno to me he seemed like a good guy from the start.

I saw it in 3D at a local IMAX over the weekend. Definitely fun to watch, especially for a 3D junkie like me. ***Potential Spoilers Below***

Technical Stuff: The use of 3D in this movie is tasteful. Unlike many animated kid films, the 3rd dimension is not abused for cheap thrills, and there are no instances of random things popping out of the screen to startle you. Pandora is an ideal setting for a 3D movie like this. The lush jungle environment provides a great range of visual depth that looks wonderful in 3D.

This is the first movie I've seen in a while which uses CG so extensively and manages to get it right. All the scenes appeared photo-realistic to me, and the movements of CG creatures were similarly convincing.

Political Stuff: The preaching gets a little heavy-handed toward the end of the film, and was a little distracting. Several elements of the plot feel rather unrealistic and contrived for the sole purpose of setting up the film's political message.

First of all, unobtainium? The first time the mineral is named in the film I actually thought the character was joking. Ha-ha, it's difficult to obtain. Only later did I realize that the stuff is really called unobtainium. Anyway, it's this magical mystery element which is only found on Pandora. We have no idea what it does, or why anyone was even looking for it on Pandora given that it doesn't exist anywhere else... But for the purposes of this movie's political message, the largest deposit of unobtainium just happens to be directly underneath a sacred tree inhabited by nature-loving Native Americans. Excuse me, I mean the Navi.

So why does a private mining corporation get to give direct orders to a (presumably) government-sponsored military unit? Who gave these guys authorization to murder the natives and burn down the forest? And with all that great futuristic technology, why can't they just mine the unobtainium by digging tunnels instead of blowing up the whole tree?

The Colonel: This character is so over the top that he gets his own subsection. I doubt I will ever see a more stereotyped military dude. Cigar-smoking, bulging muscles, battle scars on the face, macho accent, and a tenacity to kill his opponents no matter what. It's kindof funny toward the end.

Overall the film was very entertaining. I didn't even mind the extra cost of seeing it at an IMAX.

I kinda made a connection to African tribes since all the Naabi were voiced and were visually based on Black actors.
They also had an African accent.

Just watched it in 3D at the cinema. Was epic winrar. Also, I found "Neytiri" sexy. Is this wrong? What does /b/ say about it? Is it furry? I mean, she fucked a human in the film so means I can righteously fap to this right?

WITH EVERY NEW GENERATION OF MOVIE, COMES A NEW GENERATION OF PORN.

I watched the movie in 3d. It was pretty nice, very immersive. I liked that about it.

However, there were some GIGANTIC plot holes, and the plot itself had some problems. Here are some things I disliked about the movie:

- In 4 months of exploring a totally new planet, the cast sees only 11 different species of fauna, all very similar to what we have here on earth.

- WTH is going on with Earth? Why is it dying?

- Did they have to strip mine the mineral reserve? couldn't they just dig a well and branch off from that, like old-time coal mines?

- I had this complaint about 2012 also: Why are you sticking a cliche love story into this? the film does not need one!

- My biggest complaint: Subtitles in bright yellow papyrus font with drop shadow.

All in all, it was a pretty good movie. I liked it, and agree it could have been a bit longer.

EDIT: I totally agree with Gota. This could have been an adventure film, or even a fake documentary.

The plot was decent. It's a matter of taste, some like romance, some don't.

i for my part, started to make electric shaver sound after she appeared, dont know couldnt stop it at will, just silence it, by stuffing my anorakarm into my mouth.

PS: There is hard SciFi + Romance (although hard SciFi can be boring tooo) - and there is Soft (means Social SciFi, depicting more of the changed society, instead of techprogress standalone) with extraordinary romance included, which could really give the genre a boost, if ever someone in dollywood found out about.
