sub par cgi. Poor mechanical designs, some bullshit story about body snatching...

No and IMO district 9 had better mechanicals and they had a smaller budget.

seriously it looks as ass as Beowulf.

Well,I don't know if this is gonna be good but the characters and animation,at least from the trailer footage look much "smoother" than Beowulf.

I was looking forward to it from all the early info I saw, but lately I've been really worried about the clich├® love story. If that's the focus of the movie, then I really don't see it being good.

I just don't see why "Stereoscopic 3D" movies can't look as good as normal movies... it's like they spent all this money on one thing and then skimped on another thing that would have made it awesome... how hard is it to just take everything you've modeled and render it from 2 perspectives... it's exactly like Beowulf now that you mention it... (though Beowulf didn't even bother to try to make it seem like there was a story)... the worst thing about Beowulf was that they rendered it in 2D and then "3D-ified" it during post-production... ok, the worst thing was the whole movie... I still enjoyed it because it was 3D... but I hated myself for enjoying it...

Avatar has some really awesome toys however... and giants saber-toothed tigers attacking mechs is always good... so I will likely enjoy Avatar and just hate myself for doing so.

Looked dumber than hell from the start. Still looks dumber than hell. This is Hackers for 2009, only dumber. And with some mainly-CG girly-girl instead of a young and really hot Angelina Jolie.
