Statistics
Some statistics would be nice to figure out how to get more players.
IE:
- how many new users we get per month (needs smurf-check)
- how many games are played on average by users with various levels of ingame time.
- where new users come from (could be done via optional survey)
- the first things new users say
These types of statistics would help see if AF's leaky bucket concept is true and help us see what we could do to increase our playerbase.
Unfortunately, most of these stats would have to be implemented in the server or in Springlobby, raising privacy issues.

Re: Statistics
privacy issues? I don't see how any of that could be construed as invading your privacy (except the survey, which 99% of people will just click "I choose not to answer")
Remember the #main is logged by chanserv, as is #newbies, and so are most of the major mod channels. So the 'first words' thing is actually stored on the server anyway.

Re: Statistics
Some stats that would be nice to have:
- Average play time on every map
- Which mods and maps are the most player
- Which units are built the most
- Time spent in lobby with total time (Lobby + Ingame)
- Which nations win the most games on average
- Which nations lose the most games on average
- Which team sizes are most popular
- Who has the most total damage to least
- Who's been muted/banned the most
- Who plays SpeedMetal the most
- Time spent as a spec
- Who speaks the most on average to the least
- Who has the biggest e-penis.

These stats are limited, but perhaps there's something we can glean from them.
For example, what is this?

Also, the month names are now in some non-english language.

Anyway, SpringLobby devs, what are your thoughts about adding a 'send statistics to help improve spring' checkbox and helping collect some of these stats?

Re: Statistics

OH MY GAH!
so, where can we access this information? could we start compiling a list of 'new users' so that we can figure out what they do, what reception they get, and what their ultimate fate is?
Also, here's an idea: BuddyBot!
This bot would be notified whenever a 'new user' logs in for the first time. The bot will then ask the user if they want it to help them get acquainted with Spring. If the answer is yes, the bot will accompany them, recording their ingame/lobby chat and other peoples' responses to them, their first games and their results, etc. The bot will also have FAQbot functionality , regurgitating information when asked for certain key terms. The SpringLobby FAQbot is awesome, perhaps we could use its database and code as a starting point? Lastly, we can compile a list of volunteers, and if a noob needs help, they can ask chatbot, and chatbot will find one of these volunteers who is not away or ingame, and connect them to the noob to help resolve the issue.
I think a bot like this would make a newbie's first spring experience something very cool, easy, and unique, and would help us get valuable stats about how to improve our lobby, games, community, and engine.
Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

@johannes
nobody if there is a nice, friendly, well informed person who is currently availible and is willing to help a newbie and explain him the same things he explained to 100 newbies before. how many of those do we have here?

You'd be surprised. Undoubtedly 4Chan would have some robot porn.JohannesH wrote:Who wants to be showed around by a robot?
