Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
I suppose this generally comes down to ultimate life goals and whether people are just getting through life or trying to achieve, reach or get something.
There are so many subsets of "Life" many of which boil down to religion. Then there's inspiriation, life chaning events and revealings/understandings which could change someone's ultimate purpose in life.
Most people just get through life. They may think, believe or understand something or a certain set of morals but just either leave them to one side or try to forget about them.
There are of course those out there who have guidence in life and know what they're doing and what they're trying to achieve from it. For example, a religious person may find it very easy to be guided through life by simply following that religions set of rules. I suppose I'm mainly refering to Christianity and the Bible here but if anyone here's actually ever met and known a true Christian, you'd probably find they are generally quite guided people.
Religious beliefs are slowly being forgotton and pushed aside. Sure there has always been the "unguided" but as time has passed on, the overall general percentage of the "unguided" has increased and is forever is increasing.
Also I'd like to throw out that arguing on the internet or in real life is useless unless people have the sense to come to terms with arguments and accept if they've been wrong in their statements...
Oh and the media also control the majority of the "modern" humanity. God bless the third world. What I would give to have been born and raised there...

FFFFFFFFF I respect you a little bit now jazcash, quick tell me how gundam sucks....
So then if community is all that is needed to instill drive, why is it that this community has so few doers? we have a lot of really helpful people even if they do not always agree.

Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
The Internet doesn't count as a true community because there is no inherent necessity to conform and/or please those around you as in a traditional IRL community.
Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
Oh but I disagree. This community is filled with social subgroups, norms and behavioral subsets.
Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
I know your pain sortof Smoth, my brother rages about this all the time. The solution is to kill yourself quickly.
Some people that are below poverty line ): don't have time to focus or commitment to be a doer, they are dreamers, and that's why we will be poor, damn lazy dreamers that can never get focused on doing.

Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
Oh there is! Just like for any other community, there's the need to conform and please so you can be accepted, so people friends you, so replies agree with your point of view instead of flaming you, so you can be looked upon instead of banned, so you stop being ignored, etc...SinbadEV wrote:The Internet doesn't count as a true community because there is no inherent necessity to conform and/or please those around you as in a traditional IRL community.

This is the saddest part. (dis)Agreement based not on argument but on poster.zwzsg wrote:so replies agree with your point of view
To name a few people that do this often, in no particular order: smoth, tribulex, carrepairer, midnight, yokozar, elmatarife and more.
Just to give an example of course. Nothing personal.
Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
Don't act above that regret.
Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
I've never seen him do that, Smoth.
Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
Stop talking about it and go make mods? :D
Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
England does import many of our foolish ideas, like workfare and prisonfare over welfare.
As for the point on religion, I find organized religions merely offer common substitutes for the will and experience necessary in constructing your own systems of morality and understanding. As such, I don't consider the faithful any more guided in a useful sense, but rather merely in a superficial sense.

Mainly because intelligent, motivated people are isolated and psychologically punished for their keen perception of their realities.==Troy== wrote:Idiots are happiest people on this planet.

Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
I should think the reason lots of people have ideas but few want to commit 10,000 manhours realising them is because most people define their lives and happiness by events that occour outside of spring, such as work, hobbies, freinds, marriage. Its only the small majority that consider spring to be work, hobby, social circle and marriage that have the time to realise their ideas to full potetional
Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
Or we're trying to build a portfolio to get a job, and one fo the projects involves spring...
Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
cliche' argument. It is kinda old to go oh look you are doing the computer thing.. you need to get laid etc.
So since you pretty much went there... let's see in the past 4 years that I have worked on gundam:
Graduated college
Got a job right after grad and moved out on my own.
Pay both my bills and the GF's bills
Traveled to many places across the planet.
all while making the progress I have in gundam. This doesn't even cover social things like lan parties, going out to eat, going to the movies, playing xbox games with my brother or friends.
No don't bring that old chestnut of you cannot have a life and do something also. Spring content development is not work, trust me as a professional I work much faster. Hell I spent the better part of my day with the gf, then played MW2 with my brother tonight and had the time to add a few more models onto my current file.
I don't want to hear about how it is not possible to balance real life and your hobbies. Feel free to try and make that argument, I have gallery of the travel I have been on in the past year and frankly few people will see that much in their life. I don't think living in some bullshit neighborhood going to the football game every weekend and watching sitcoms each night is a life. I do not believe for one second that most or even many families really spend time with one another.
So before you try and argue that someone cannot do something more with them self I want you to consider maybe you manage your time poorly.
All that being said, it is still bullshit to effectively want people to do slavish work to accomplish YOUR idea while you make next to no effort beyond spouting off concept. I am tired and why the fuck do I care.

To be fair, some jobs are more tiring and/or time-consuming than others.

@smoth:
defensive much? that wasnt even directing at you, I was just adressing your argument:
Q:
why dont many gamers make the content they request
A:
some of us only have a few hours a week for spring and would rather spend that time playing the game.
