New 1v1 Map: Desert Cliffs V1

Post by MaSSaCrE »

This is my first map I have created, as well as my first post.

I created this map using world machine 2 basic, spring map edit,
and photoshop.

This is a small 1 vs 1 map with quite a bit of resources.

Or even better (if you want to make me giggle like a schoolgirl that is), here: http://www.springinfo.info/wp-login.php

Good job all around, I look forward to playing it and seeing it ingame once I can get my compy to run spring again :)
Just maybe some minor touchups needed to reduce the tiling of the texture on the flats.

looks good, I like how you used different textures for high / low ground and the cliffs.

Looks really nice. One thing that maybe could be improved is the repetitive texture on the lower grounds. Good work otherwise!

PS.
And yeah: Feed springinfo! :)

I'm glad you guys like it.

Yeah I failed a bit on the lower texture. I tried breaking up the pattern when I was making it I just didn't have any good textures to go along with it.

Well you can still improve it if you want.
A lot of Spring maps were released several times before the final version.

Genetica Viewer is a good free tool for generating textures. You may want to try it for the flatlands. Alternatively, you could open the texture in Photoshop/GIMP and go crazy with the clone/pattern stamp, but that may not look very good and may increase file size.

Either way, great first map! :-)

Very nice! I love the difference in texture on the heightmap between the rock and the sand, thats an excellent touch that more maps should use.

Though in places, there is that lumpy texture on sand, which looks weird.

Is it meant to be a 1v1 map? It'll be interesting to see how it plays, given the metal distro and the flat land starting position.

If it's your first map, I must say it's pretty impressing piece.

Although your concept isn't very new or special, pretty similiar to martian desert actually IIRC, It still doesn't indulge in fancy complex experiments, but in simpliness offers warm and welcoming feeling. :)

Pity that this, like most all of 1v1 will be lost in oblivion of vast sea of spring maps...

Is something up with the heightfields granularity here? The vertical transition seems very blocky in places.
