anyone give this game a try? its a MMO FPS. (free to play, pay for perks)
its a LOT like counterstrike 1.6, so it was easy to get right into the game and start killing... even the weapons are very similar (although, ofc as a MMO there are a lot more things available to get.)
it's a very closed environment; you aren't able to open a console, you can only play official maps and gamemodes... so it turns out more like a console fps than a pc based one.
as you level up your character, you are able to use new abilities to enhance your gameplay (currently i just have one enabled, that lets me run fast with the knife)
and now, a few issues with the game... for one thing, there are no dedicated servers... players host the games; if the host lags too much, it switches. problems arise however when you get players from brazil and vietnam and europe all trying to play in the same match (which, by process of elimination, allows me to be the host)
also there are a LOT of south americans and pacific islanders in the game. is this bad? yes. not because i dislike them personally, but there seems to be a consistency of noobishness+hacker accusations+awful hosting from that particular corner of the world.
you will LOL when you see your choice of server. there is a server for each of the most important countries on the pacific rim (malaysia, singapore, and the philippines) and everyone else has to share the "others" server, which can cause some lollag.
want to hear the most LOL part about this game? of course you do. people from the USA aren't allowed to play; outspark bought the rights to the USA distribution, but now there's a contract issue, and TBH it looks as if the USA will never get a chance to have it.... the game is garena based.
now go download it and shoot some people in the face! if you like the idea of spawnkilling and stabbing people in the head, this game is for you.

Re: Blackshot
sounds fun but the lollag issue puts me off of trying it.
for a quick bambambam deathmatch game like this i do not want to wait for hours until i find a good server. (spring is enough waiting already)
so i think i will stay with urban terror which is free and has a good multiplayer.

Re: Blackshot
Urban Terror is an excellent game; wombat got me into it and i'm thankful for that... part of my problem is that im a big stats whore, and the idea of levelling a character just adds to the whole thing about persistent stats... i constantly check my K/D ratio and stuff like that to see if i've improved.
a word on the lag... i've really made it out to be worse than it is... the lag is handled differently that other fps games i've encountered, which get a "picture frame" effect when lag occurs.
in blackshot, players continue to move smoothly when lagging, but the difference is that their actions are happening "in the past" which is to say, if someone is in a game lagging behind you by 2 seconds, their actions take place 2 seconds late, which means that only they take the hit for lagging... also, on host change, if you have a good ping, often you will get to start moving again before many of the other players, allowing you to get ridiculous multikills.
outcome? a dude from some god-forsaken backwater of a country logs into an EU hosted game from his homemade 9600 baud modem, and runs around stupidly getting sniped repeatedly in the face. its lulzy and happens often.
so yeah, if you have half-decent internet, there will be lag, but it's something you can take advantage of because it hits people with crap internet way harder. i've played on reasonably hosted games from people in south america and asia, so i think it's something more to do with the quality of the connection itself rather than physical distance... i might be way off though. just saying, lag has only helped me in this game, never hindered me.
also... again... there are some very good blackshot players, but the general quality of play is low. if you like killing noobs... well, there ya go
its better than DsD for noob execution. and that says a lot.

sets the tone for this topic, apparently, urban terror is "good"

if you didn't like urban terror, you definitely wouldn't like blackshot.Spawn_Retard wrote:sets the tone for this topic, apparently, urban terror is "good"
i've noticed with UrT, it's not a very noob-friendly game... if you're crap at FPS games, say goodnight; UrT gives experienced players a ton of options to get ahead of noobs.
and im pissed off at blackshot, i was supposed to get some special silencer when i levelled my sniper rifle, and it failed to appear. putting this one down for a while until my rage subsides.
Re: Blackshot
Urban Terror is a lot of fun, but yeah, it's not noob-friendly. If you suck at FPS, you'll get eaten for lunch, tbh, until you develop some skill. It's a lot like a love-child of CS (circa 1.1) and The Specialists.
Which is exactly why it's popular, unlike most of the Free-As-In-Beer or Open Source FPS engines attempting to emulate Quake III / UT 2. I've tried most of them... and most of them have better engines, graphically, but their gameplay is not what I like.

Re: Blackshot
lol wat?
actually urban terror and q3 are two of the few FPS where I do sometimes get a positiv kill-death ratio.
maybe because more depends on movement instead of placing a mousepointer precisely on a enemys head and clicking.

Re: Blackshot
ijji.com has an MMOFPS called Soldier Front
(free to play, pay for perks)... haven't tried it but their other games look pretty awesome and I'm pretty sure it's dedicated servers
