I'm playing the Vanquisher in VH/HC at the moment, with an overenchanted 1100 DPS heirloomed unique gun (was lucky enough it didn't wipe, think I spent 200k in total on it). From level 4 on I didn't need any potions anymore since mana and health refill is LMB due to the stats on it, but getting hit gets you killed very fast.

So, protip is don't get hit and perhaps http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3421 for your next guy, so you can pop right into the endless dungeon from level 1 on...

...once the steam patch is out, as the steam version is buggy like it's not reading the config file properly, so you can not go to the dungeon as it depends on a setting in it. Grrr...

If you are looking for a challenge, play the game with your own set of rules like these.

i dont like overenchanting atm it makes blues better than purp/oranges for weapons due to the gold costs to change oranges/purps.

having a level 3 weapon with 1200 dps and 15 different stats/mods is a bit overkill.

Also they could really do more with the socketing system like the runeword stuff in diablo2 but i guess that can be modded with level editor.

also just got a fish to permanently turn my pet into a mimic <3

The game currently is enchantment dependend if you want to get past floors 50-70 in the endless dungeon, since the monsters grow exponentially but the loot doesn't get any better. The best uniques and sets are the low level ones as they are the cheapest to enchant, by the way. Which is why I use that lvl 5 gun. After heirlooming it 5 times it won't have any level requirement on it making it the perfect weapon for any char to get you started on higher difficulties. From what I read you can heirloom 10 times in total and 5 of them reduce the level req.

You lucky bastard, I spent 4 hours on fishing in total and the best thing I pulled out was a pair of set boots. So, I got that fish mod that allows you to transmute 5 of each to the next version... so a few hours later I said fuck it just dupe them till you have one for each and make a backup of your shared stash. :P

Does the depth of this game compare at all to the better roguelikes out there?

No. It's like Diablo, not Nethack. It's all about pretty loot and overkill and whatnot.

Yeah, you're right, Torchlight is totally shallow. Let's redo it as a Spring mod, but with depth this time!

OK
I have played this gamer for a while.
I'm lvl 11 with the mage dude.
Game has a lot of promise but it is just too basic.
1)from all the lvls i played there wasnt one that was memorable.
I know they randomize them but their algorithms do not create interesting, memorable maps.
I want to look back and remember that cool lvl that had that that and that.
2)lvls are not interactive enough. There are all sorts of features in the lvls but they are only cosmetic.
3)nothing new at all.
4)fishing.This is a fun minigame.I dont know why its fun but it is,well done.
5)its such a shame they arent concentrating on adding shit to this game.
It would be nice to have some lvls that are a bit more puzzlish.
It would be nice to have more chars.
Would be nice to have some original content in terms of gameplay.
I understand their next project is a torchlight mmo...such a shame would have been better if the focuses on improving torchlight.

Nice to know you cant even have a proper discussion about a game on these boards anymore.

(alternatively just delete all of spawns/regrets posts)
Why cant you accept that it isnt worth $20?

From the videos i saw on the website, i would expect this game to be a free open source RPG.

It really doesnt looked polished, and the art style is unoriginal.

EDIT: i like how anyone that gives an opinion other than what you want to hear, is deemed trolling.

really, if you want 100% of the community to agree on what you say, go post on their forums.
I haven't played it, but if I had money to drop on indie games at full price right now it would be at the top of my list. It's gotten really good reviews, and I love the diablo procedural item generation type stuff.

Most people only say full price when they mean 50$, not 20.

20 dollars is full price for an indie game.
