Replace the default GUI
The ugly default GUI plays a large part in scaring away noobs.
without wanting to inflate any egos, can we replace it with lolui? its simply better in every way.

Re: Replace the default GUI
Imo lolui isnt the slightest bit prettier than the default one. Rectangles with different levels of transparency are not pretty.

Scaring away noobs from what exactly?
This forum is for spring requests. If you feel noobs are being scared away from XTA or some other mod, post in that project's subforum.

Re: Replace the default GUI
Games and mods should provide their own GUI, it is as simple as that. The tools are there, and no game is well represented by a generic GUI. Updating the default will only undercut efforts to make game-specific GUI by sating a portion of the masses, it won't make the games much better, since any generic design must be open to random lua and be cluttered to meet all demands.
Re: Replace the default GUI
LolUI has some performance issues and was made with only *A mods in mind. Games should include their own UIs. If the default UI was to change to some widget then it could ruin the interface for those that rely on the default Spring UI (unless they override it etc).1v0ry_k1ng wrote:The ugly default GUI plays a large part in scaring away noobs.

So it's a very bad idea to do that.

It is so easy to do this. There are so many different ways it can be done. THUS it is the GAME'S fault if it has an ugly gui. You can revise you argument to being "poorly designd GAMES" are scaring noobs away from spring.

Re: Replace the default GUI
Well then tell gui author to stop releasing shit to players. Evo uses redui. Any time someone has iceui or lolui or whateverthefuckui installed locally, spring either crashes or the gui itself goes fucking apeshit.

Re: Replace the default GUI
Hence why we locked out local widgets in CA, and users can explicitly disable the locking out at their own risk.Forboding Angel wrote:Well then tell gui author to stop releasing shit to players. Re: Replace the default GUI
Regret, it isn't redui's fault. It's iceui's fault. red + lol don't usually crash, it just ends up with 2 chatboxes and shit kinda crazy.
Iceui locks p spring.exe on loading luaui.
@CR, nice! And it can be disabled user side? That's REALLY cool!

lockluaui.txt, or make changes to luaui to only load certain widgets :)Forboding Angel wrote:Regret, it isn't redui's fault. It's iceui's fault. red + lol don't usually crash, it just ends up with 2 chatboxes and shit kinda crazy.

Re: Replace the default GUI
dunno what you guys are talking about, but I've never had trouble/crashes running iceui (which looks better imo) with other ui frameworks present

Re: Replace the default GUI
Yeah, it's attracted CA a poopstorm of whinery in the past weeks. But unfortunately it's necessary because your point is right about 3rd party guis not being compatible with games. Back when spring was 99% *A I'm sure it made sense, but not today.Forboding Angel wrote:@CR, nice! And it can be disabled user side? That's REALLY cool!
Re: Replace the default GUI
CA is *A
Re: Replace the default GUI
Presently, yes, but Spring isn't.d_b wrote:CA is *A
