I've looked around a bit and it seems nobody asked such a question.
There are many situations where moddevs are trying to make a screenshot that would represent their mod in the best light. Such screenshot sometimes require careful alignment of camera, units and terain and usualy feature a combat intense situation.
Many people don't have very powerfull computers for runing Spring in max details and low detailed screenshots don't look very attractive.
So i propose you add an option to engine (or a LUA widget/gadget) that would allow the user to make a screenshot in max details. Since FPSmanager widget can adjust Spring setting on the fly, same could be used for screenshots. Pause the game, temporary adjust the setting to the max, make the screenshot, revert gfx details, unpause the game.

Re: Screenshot upgrade
your card might not support the actual graphical operation to begin with. Such a feature is unlikely to happen.

Re: Screenshot upgrade
Can't the engine autodetect gfx capabilities of your card? From what i've seen in infolog it gives me warnings about features my gfx card doesn't support. Which is strange as nVidia claims it's fully OpenGL 3.0 compatible.

Yes, but spring only uses OGL 1.0 (and 2.0 for some special things) AFAIK.
